  • Fly the Friendly Skies (UA SIN-HKG v.v.)

I'm kinda lazy so this is gonna be a pictorial report.

    Sector - SIN-HKG
    Flight number - UA896
    Class - Economy
    Equipment - B747-400
    Seat - 57B

The check-in counters at T3. Both UA 804 to NRT and UA 896 to HKG uses the same counter.

    Checking in

My boarding pass. Kinda ugly IMHO.

The aircraft that brought me to HKG

    View from my seat

I was the first few in Y to board

    Behind me

    View in front of me

    The aft Y cabin

Kinda shock that pillows and blankets were distributed on such a short flight. I don't remember seeing this on CX.

    Seat in front of me

    Plenty of legroom
We put labels on people and fight wars over them. If we truly want harmony, we have to get past the labels.

Thanks for sharing. Where does UA896 end up in the US?

I think UA896 is bound for Chicago.

Started to rain just before take off

        Prepare for take off

        Bye Singapore!

        Up, up and away!

Breakfast, or rather a snack box. There was also a sandwich being given out by the FAs which I missed as I was asleep.

Is it me or is there nothing Starbucks about the coffee they serve? In fact, it tasted horrible.

        Not quite there yet

Bored as there was no PTVs in Y

        First decend

        3...2...1...

        Landed!

Err...I think both are available for short-haul CX flight.

Me with the FAs. They were surprisingly friendly and not as bad as what many have claimed.

            RED...

            Shuttle to the arrival hall

In the shuttle. I prefer this as compared to the Skytrain we had in Changi.

            Terrible queues at the immigration

Baggage claim. My luggage was already waiting for me on the belt when I was there. Not surprising since the immigration officers were so inefficient.

Photos on the return trip will be up when I'm free.

Even in Y? Oh gosh, CX doesn't love me I guess.

                Thanks for reporting back, nykelaz.
In my experience, UA is quite alright as well.
Just need to BYO entertainment when in Y.

SIN-HKG is done with the HKG based crews which aren't too bad IMO.

Yep. One's gotta take UA C from SFO/LAX to SYD to see how bad UA FAs can get.

True. In fact, I've only seen one American FA, who was the Purser for Y, on my flight to HKG. On the way back, the flight was managed almost entirely by HKG based crew with a few Singaporeans and Filipinos (Not sure whether are they HKG based though).

Nice pics, although do take note that in some countries, taking pictures in immigration CIQ areas are a strict no-no.
I've seen some dire consquences on some fellas taking pictures while in immigration queues.

                          Nice pictures.

                          Thanks for posting.

I read somewhere, TOF I think, that the best UA crew were Asia based.

In cutbacks, they were the first to lose their jobs as they were not part of the US based airline union.

This led to quite a spirited discussion on TOF about United/legacy airlines.

                              Before going through immigration

                              Slow and inefficient immigration

Long queue at the immigration. Just like what I've experience on the way in.

Security checks done after immigration unlike in SIN which was done before the boarding gates.

FITV. I prefer the ones we had in Changi with the airline logos. I think it's easier to seach for the flights that way.

Temporary blackout. I think someone from the ops turned off the wrong lights which resulted in half the half experiencing blackout for minutes. The lights were promptly turned back on after some time.
