Is Otani a decent hotel chain?

I wish KrisFlyer would hurry up and sign SAS Radisson hotels as a partner. Quite disconcerting to check in at Copenhagen and see AsiaMiles as a partner, but not KrisFlyer. (Of course, showing my MPC card doesn't really suffice, and I nearly always have to point to the sign that indicates AsiaMiles is a partner, and then tell the agent that AsiaMiles might be coded under 'CX'. )

Have never stayed in one but have been to the Japanese restaurant at Singapore Otani (its now a Novotel) and found the place to be quite nice. The lobby was decently decorated. I would classify it as perhaps 4-star

Stayed there on a couple of trips to NRT. It's supposedly 5 stars, but that depends on whether u are staying in the 'new' or old wing. The latter has huge decent rooms, while the former has rooms that look like, well, a 3.5-4 star hotel in Singapore.

Overall, this is a Japanese hotel chain. Service is decent, but not friendly. Decors looks dated. But it's located smack in Akasaka area, crowded area where businessmen hang out in the evenings. Convenient location for good traditional local food.

The building sits just opposite the Akasaka Prince Hotel... a stunning building designed by Kenzo Tange, but with equally dated 80s style interior and rooms.

Typically Japanese type hotel. Don't expect modernities and sophistication that one would come to expect in major international brands such as Conrad, Park Hyatt etc.

Compared to the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku area, New Otani looks like Hotel 81.
