  • Update transiting through Changi Airport

    Furious!

I just flew SQ351 from Rome to Singapore in Business, connecting to a flight later today to Sydney.

Upon landing in Singapore just now, we've all been escorted to the infamous holding pen, even though flights from Italy and Denmark were NOT on the list. I've just been told that Denmark, Switzerland and Italy were added to the list halfway through our flight to Singapore (though they still do not appear on the Changi website).

Premium passengers take note, there are no Business/First facilities in the holding pen, nor complimentary food or drink. User pays system mainly from vending machines. There is a "Premium" seating area but no one controls it, so all passengers are using it at present.

    I'm speechless.

Absolutely ridiculous theatre by incompetent people that run the alleged "world's best airport".

Clearly they think these standards of facilities are appropriate and forget the fact that it took decades to build and establish a world-leading air hub. How times have changed. Disgraceful attitudes.

Sorry to hear of your experience.

Changi Airport websites are updated, pax from Denmark and Switzerland (in addition to France, Germany, Netherlands and UK) will be in the holding pen during transit.

"holding pen" is a Gov ruling. Understand its frustrating and would not want it myself. As for having someone to manage the premium corner - well having more ppl also means putting more ppl at risk and it already tough on the front liners working in the airport.

Perhaps Changi should deploy flying drones like China to monitor ppl and have a built in speaker to shout at folks who are non compliant? would that work ?

I can fully understand your anger. It's one thing having to deal with whatever the rules are at the moment. That's fair enough and the 'risk' we all take if we choose to fly at the moment. But changing rules for a flight midair is bang out of order.

Unfortunately it is in line with what seems to have been some 'plot losing' in Singapore recently:

This is the Bloomberg article referenced in the post on the above Flyertalk thread, which now seem to have finally triggered a 'clarification'....
