  • Marina Bay Sands

I'm staying at the new Marina Bay Sands hotel in August on my trip to SIN. This is for a corporate meeting that is being held there.

Anyone stayed there yet? Anyone have any advice or comments about the place. All info gratefully received!

Colleague stayed there and was severely underwhelmed. Also, she mentioned the breakfast buffet rush in the morning is ridiculous...

oh, when they hosted their 1st major event in Feb (IIRC) there were repeated outages, including when a major keynote was on, and several rooms were reportedly suffering the same, with no a/con. am sure its teething and shd be sorted out. havent stayed there to be sure

I was just watching build it bigger on the discovery channel which was all about the construction of the Marina Bay Sands. Very Impressive.

I did pop in to have a little look around the last time I was in SIN. The most obvious thing is that although yes the hotel is complete now there is still a lot of construction going on around it. Also there is nothing else around it apart from the casino so you need to get a taxi to get anywhere

if you go to the casino the queues to change your chips back to cash can be very long, would like to go in the pool on the top mind you.

Here's a more detailed excerpt from my colleague who's stayed there firsthand (Singapore slang glasses required):

Colleague: "the rooms are just okie.. not so fanciful
                -the sheets are not nice.
-confirm not of good threadcount nor egyptian cotton satin. the covers are better than the sheet
-the carpet's new.. so overall very clean
-we stayed in the atrium premium room at level 16. maybe the suites and horizon rooms are better
-the balcony quite a disappointment.. the type of tiles they used look cheapo
-then the couch is not that comfortable as well
-heee... but i like the bathtub, its nice
-the toiletries are just so so. my boy has got sensitive skin and i forgotten to bring his usual soap.. used the ones fm hotel and he got rashes right away"

Me: "do they use premium toiletries or house branded?"

                Colleague: "just house brand

Me: "you said only the b'fast buffet sucks right?"

                Colleague: "nothing fanciful
but again i am just staying in the atrium premim room. suites might be better
                the breakfast queue was mad!
we did not eat there. went coffee bean instead
if want to have breakfast must go early. cos till 10am only
remember to go to the pool.
                only 1.2m, 150m long
but still.. the highest infinity pool in the pool. go experience!
that day was a bit cloudy.. can see bt timah hill and our home
so if bright sunny day.. can see really far
also the bathrobes are not those premium type
the hair dryer hidden in a cheapo looking pouch in the wardrobe
and they did not have complimentary bottled water!
sigh.. maybe cos our room was using points clocked in the casino
so *** have all these freebies
this weekend, my sister staying again with her points"

This does strike me as a bit odd.. The reason right now escapes me, but just seems odd that a premium-esque product lacks premium products...

They arrested a disgruntled employee for sabotage.

He worked for the engineering company responsible for electrical works.

Cousin stayed there in June. Let's just say that I'd wait a while till teething problems are ironed out..

It was my colleague's second time staying there... the first time was the previous weekend... and yes, it does sound odd but it must be true...

All teething problems aside, I am still keen to see what Wakuda-san has come up with for his restaurant!

I'm sure it's a lot bloody easier to get a reservation there than his restaurant in SYD

I see they're still charging an arm and a leg during F1, they're optimistic they'll have the teething issues resolved

I thought Wakuda-san's SYD restaurant was a free-for-all every 6 weeks in advance... or something to that effect (it was when I was living in SYD and I heard he turned Tom Cruise away once when he walked up without a reservation)...

                            I assume you mean Tetsuya's?

Book 3 months in advance and its easy enough.

I'd be turning Tom Cruise away whether he had a reservation or not
