Default Qantas A380 and 747-400 emergency landings at Changi

Breaking news.

The nightmares continue...

Quote:
A Qantas plane has made an emergency landing at Singapore airport, Indonesian authorities say.

Indonesian media reports on Thursday said there had been some sort of explosion over the Indonesian island of Batam, near Singapore, at about 9.15am local time.

Tatang Kurnia, head of Indonesia's Transportation Safety Board, said the explosion came from a Qantas plane that had just lifted off from Singapore.

"We've been informed from Singapore that a Qantas plane overflying the area defuelled and then made an emergency landing back in Singapore," he told MetroTV.

Qantas says the plane, flying from Singapore to Sydney, experienced engine problems.

"Qantas flight QF32 was enroute from Singapore to Sydney, the number two engine has shut down, so as a precautionary measure we are taking it back to Singapore," A Qantas spokeswoman told AAP.

"It should land in about 40 minutes," she said at 1430 AEDT.

There were rumours on Twitter that the plane had exploded and crashed over Indonesia. Glad that wasn't the case!

It is good that everyone is safe and the plane landed safely in SIN. From the debris on the ground in Batam, it looks like it is more than just a regular engines shut down. Something did happen.

You have to wonder how Qantas can have so many issues, it really seems more than average to me

Another kangaroo gets wounded again. It looks to me like an engine failure in the turbine or compressor section. Probably a blade or two coming off, I suppose. There is also damages to the leading edge of the wing. The initial reports were scary. And they also report that parts of the tail came off when it,s just part of the engine cowling that came off.

Considering how much time / effort goes into making a Trent 900, that's a very sad sight... the boys at RR must be upset. Luckily everyone survived...

this seems to be the worst of all the Qantas accidents...

The reports seem to hint that it's the A380 and not Qantas. In my opinion, Qantas has SERIOUS issues with its maintainance programme. But I must say that the pilots always save the day. Qantas really have to payout bonuses to them

Since Qantas has out sourced its maintanence they are always having problems . They were lucky these pilots knew what they were doing.

Don't start with that rubbish. The aircraft is maintained in Australia and Germany (by Lufthansa). The aircraft itself is made in europe. Utter rubbish to blame outsourcing or offshore maintenance.
