duty free arrival manchester (UK)

Does anyone know if you are able to shop duty free on arrival at Manchester airport before passing though customs.

The last time I was there on SQ, the customs at MAN went off for breakfast. (well, it's 8am, so I presume they were, as it was absolutely deserted). July 2010.

To clarify, i didn't do any duty free shopping on arrival at MAN. And I can't recall any duty free shops either. Perhaps i wasn't thirsty and don't smoke either.

Guess you could/ should buy before boarding flights to MAN.
