Indeed. The first 77W flight was the inaugural pax flight to CDG, for which there is an excellent TR on here by our recently reappeared DeltaFlyingProf.

Pretty accurate information. I was talking to flight crew (check captain) a couple of months ago who mentioned the same date.

        SQ's 2nd (msn 30) & 3rd (msn 31) A350s have been assigned test registration F-WZFY & WF-WZFZ, respectively.

We are clearly on our way to seeing our first 3 A350s being delivered in the 1st quarter of 2016.

Thanks for the article, shikhargpt. That confirms that msn 26, 30 & 31 will be delivered before end March 2016.

The 787 was described as a 'game-changer', opening long, thin routes that were not economically feasible with previous long-haul aircraft. We'll see if the A350 is being called a 'game-changer' for the same reasons with SQ...can't wait for more news about their plans!

                Perhaps a SIN-YVR-ORD/BOS routing with the A350!

Singapore Airlines’ first Airbus A350 to fly January 2016

According AusBT, A350 looks to fly from January 2016, earlier than Cathay Pacific:

Singapore Airlines will begin 2016 with the delivery of the first of 70 Airbus A350 jets as part of an ongoing fleet renewal program.

The airline expects to have three Airbus A350 jets by March 2016, with at least the first 20 of the 70-strong order being a three-class fit-out with its latest business class, new premium economy and economy seats.

The following year will also see a new raft of Airbus A380s for Singapore Airlines, with the improved superjumbos in turn revealing an all-new design for first class suites and business class.

However, Mak indicated that the airline's later A350 jets would include a two-class version without premium economy, intended for medium-range flights where the ‘better than economy’ cabin has less appeal.

“The exact number (of A350s) for long-haul flights is still something to be pinned down but certainly the first batch that will come in will be earmarked for long-haul flights and will have premium economy.”

However, SQ won’t fit first class seats to its A350s. “It will be only three classes, because of the size of the plane you cannot fragment it too much” Mak told Australian Business Traveller.

“The A350 is a very versatile plane, covering a range of missions from long-haul to medium-haul. The backbone of our fleet now is the Boeing 777, but we have bought quite a lot of A350s, 70 planes, so the A350 will be replacing a lot of the 777s currently in operation, especially the 777-200s.”

Mak says Singapore Airlines will rely on the A350 to upgrade existing routes but also open up services to cities not currently on SQ’s network map.

“These new generation planes will allow us to operate more economically to routes which are marginal at best with today’s fleet” Mak explains.

“So it’s both a replacement of the 777-200 on existing routes but it will also allow us to look at some possibilities which are not open now because of the (route) economics.”

Singapore Airlines will join Cathay Pacific in celebrating the 2016 Chinese New Year with the new aircraft; other airlines lining up for 2016 delivery of the Airbus A350 include Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, Asiana and Thai Airways.

Perhaps SIN - SYD will become the first A350 route by SQ?

Currently they are offering B772 and B773 to SYD for SQ211/2 and SQ241/2, which has dated Economy product and regional I.

Perhaps they could look into upgrading products as well as capacity on this route since these times are mostly used by passengers travelling to Europe from Australia?

When I read the above article, Copenhagen really comes to mind. Very long flight, room to grow the partnership with SK, more economical to deal with the sometimes patchy demand of going daily.

Msn 26 is current being moved into the next station, Station 40, of the Final Assembly Line where the wings will be joined to the fuselage. Cabin installation and first power-on will also take place at this station. We will also see the vertical & horizontal tail plane, tail cone, engine pylons and main landing gear installed here.

I think there are high chances the A350 will be launched on the SIN-SYD route. The A380 first flight as well as the 9 August PY first flight was/is on that route. SQ seems to like to use the Australian market as a test bed before rolling out their products to other destinations.

Great news! Can't wait to see MSN26 in its full form on its first flight.

Any idea when it will undergo its first flight? Or even roll out of the paint shop?

It will probably be delivered in January 2016, so according to the current rate of production, we might see it painted in October, and the first flight in late November or early December? No fixed dates for now though.
