Fleet plans for financial year 17/18 from the just announced results:

http://infopub.sgx.com/FileOpen/nr-q...&FileID=454408

FLEET DEVELOPMENT

During the January-March 2017 quarter, the Parent Airline Company added two A350-900s into service. Three A330-300s and one 777-300 were removed from operation in preparation for lease return. As at 31 March 2017, the operating fleet of the Parent Airline Company comprised 106 passenger aircraft (53 777s, 23 A330-300s, 19 A380-800s and 11 A350-900s), with an average age of 7 years and 8 months.

The Parent Airline Company expects to take delivery of ten A350-900s and three A380-800s during the 2017-18 financial year. All the aircraft, apart from one of the A380-800s, are planned to enter into service by 31 March 2018. Two A330-300s, four A380-800s, two 777-200s and one 777-200ER are expected to be removed from the operating fleet for lease return or for sale. The total operating fleet of the Parent Airline Company is expected to grow to 109 aircraft by the end of the financial year. Capacity for FY2017-18 is projected to increase marginally by 0.4%, partly due to ongoing aircraft cabin upgrade programmes.

Looks like SRJ, SRL and SVF will finally leave......

I'd been wondering when we might see this. Thanks for sharing!

This answers quite a few questions. Yes, it seems fairly obvious that the remaining three purple cabins will be the first 777s to go. This also puts to rest speculation about SVA and SVD making a comeback- they haven't included those planes in their total of 53 777s.

The big interest to me is the implied reduction in the A380 fleet. Three deliveries, minus one not ready to enter service by Mar '18, minus four leaving the fleet = Minus 2 x A380s. Now obviously there's more exact timings to be known and maintenance schedules etc. but it certainly doesn't appear to be "plane for plane" like it did originally.

My first post here!

9V-SVG is also retrofitted with 2006 Y IFE earlier.

On that day, 9V-SVG was operating the flight. Sorry that I didn't post earlier as I just started my account recently.

This is probably just temporary timing mismatch. SKA-E will be returned when their leases end, so they need to exit the fleet a bit earlier. They are on 10 year leases; #4 SKD is marked as delivered in April 08, so probably will exit fleet a month or so before April 18. New aircraft delivery will be dependent on Airbus' production schedule, which is independent of the lease expiries. So it may be that SQ will be short of 1-2 A380s during transition, but I doubt it will become a real scheduling issue. By end calendar year 2018, they'd be probably to back to 19 A380s.

Well, I certainly hope that the new SQ A380s will be on the SIN-FRA-JFK by February 2018. Fingers crossed!!

Welcome happyflyer!

We love it when first posts tell us good news like that. Thanks for the information! Because this refit process is so unofficial and random, only eyewitness evidence can really give us hard data.

I believe 9V-SVC is currently undergoing this process but can't be sure.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but is there any reason why SQ are offloading the older A380s and not extending the leases? It seems to be the newer A380s that are experiencing more problems. And anyways, those planes are still fairly new when compared to other planes in the fleet.

Speaking of older planes in the fleet, I still find it bizarre that the airline is refitting their oldest 772ERs. With the amount of long haul A350s entering service, I would think the 772ERs won't be needed anymore, no?

Actually, the older A380s have had a huge share of technical issues. I heard this from a source who works in SIA Engineering. Also, they are overweight and hence less efficient than newer A380s. But i'm no expert, just speculating based on existing facts.

They're also leased, so if you don't like the plane and don't want to keep it... Bye bye!

Yes, I really find this absolutely impossible to understand.

Okay, so they need to keep a few of the old 772s for maybe the next 5 years maximum. It's a believable scenario and they want to bring them up to a standard that doesn't anger passengers. So why would you not pick the non-ER 772s that have regional J to use on the shorter flights given they will fill in for departing A330s? Or, if there's a real desire to keep some of the SV* series, then maybe SVJ/L/M/N? Surely SVB would be the last plane you'd refurbish because by the time it's remained in the fleet long enough to be worth refurbing, it will be 20 years old or more. And why with all the brand new efficient A350s decked out for long haul, would you still be wanting to fly an ancient 772 on a long haul route? It's not like any one of their 772s is going to find a buyer in the current market for old 777s, so it doesn't make sense to scrap newer planes first.

Welcome happyflyer!

When did you fly on SVG?

I last flew her on 21/4 and she wasn't refurbished yet. I wasn't aware she was out of action since then, so I'm quite surprised that she has been refurbished so quickly. Are you absolutely certain you weren't on SVB?

Yes, SVG hasn't been out of action for longer than a day or so in the past 4 months, however:

SVB has flown to FCO on 10 & 19 February, 14, 18, 23 & 30 April and 12, 16 & 20 May.

SVG has flown to FCO on 10, 17 & 24 March, 11 & 28 April, and 2 May.

Between these two planes, an incredible number of flights to Rome have been covered! This suggests to me as though both planes could be carrying the 2006 Y product and they are specifically targeting FCO to receive it.

happyflyer's post on instagram is displaying to me as dated 2 May. If that is indeed the actual day of departure, SQ366 was flown on that day by 9V-SVG and that photo is definitely of a recently refitted 772ER.

Could it be that SVG was fitted out some time last year and none of us noticed?

You can't both be right or both be wrong, so where do we go from here?

Default SYI is now refurb Y

Just flew SYI on SQ 827 today and it has the refurb Y seats with updated VOD entertainment system. Definitely much better than the unrefurb SY* 773 I few a few months ago.
