  • Emirates 432 (SIN-BNE) Business Class Trip Report

After a fantastic time at The Emirates Lounge, it was time for our flight to Brisbane. And boy was it a lovely flight!

Today's flight was serviced by a beautiful Boeing 777-300ER. My seat was 7J and Mummy's seat was 7k. Here are some photos of the Emirates Business Class seat:

There was a pillow, a blanket and a noise-cancelling headset already waiting for us at our seats.

Leg-room was great and there was ample space below the entertainment system to store our carry-on items.

An interesting feature of the seats were the cute cubby holes for our shoes. I found them a tad too small to be of any use for my shoes. Hahaha. Eventually, I placed my left shoe on the top cubby and my right shoe on the bottom cubby. My mum placed her shoes under her entertainment system.

Mummy and I were discussing that though our seats were fantastic and perfectly suited for couples traveling together, we both agreed that it was a bit too close for comfort for solo travelers/strangers. Whilst there was a button that raised up a privacy blind between the two seats, the proximity of both seats were a bit too close and intimate; privacy and personal space was left wanting. Having said that, we were still very grateful that we were not sitting in the middle row of the plane:

3 seats in the middle row?!

Some travelers may find it appalling (and even unacceptable) that Emirates still has a 2-3-2 configuration! The poor person sitting at the "E" row would have to cross over someone (either left or right) in order to go to the toilet. AWKWARD ...

In other words, not every seat in this Emirates Business Class configuration has direct aisle access. This arrangement was fine maybe 5-8 years ago but it is quite unacceptable for today's standards. Singapore Airlines, for example, has a 1-2-1 configuration on its long-haul Business Class cabin. And boy did I have an amazing experience flying with them. You can read more about of my Singapore Airlines Business Class trip reviews here:

Even Singapore Airlines' regional Business Class cabin has a 2-2-2 configuration and that is still a better arrangement than the 2-3-2 of Emirates.

Admittedly, this is not Emirates newest Business Class product. They do have a newer Business Class cabin on their A380-800 aircrafts. That one boasts a 1-2-1 configuration and an onboard bar! I intend to fly on that aircraft some time in the near future.

Anyway, our discussion about seating arrangements was pleasantly cut-short with the serving of our welcome drinks:

I chose a glass of bubbles while Mummy went for Orange Juice.

Once the last few (late) passengers were onboard, we made our way towards the runway and soon, we were airborne. As soon as the seatbelt signs were off, I quickly grabbed the menu and began deciding on what to eat for dinner:

Emirates has a rather extensive menu that spans many pages!

The lovely stewardesses came around the cabin around this time to distribute some munchies to us. An assortment of nuts were beautifully presented on a small plate/saucer:

    Nuts and Champagne

During this time, the cabin crew also came around to distribute the amenity kit for the flight. I wasn't able to grab a photo of my kit but I was able to grab a photo of Mummy's one:

    Mummy's amenity kit!

It was a lovely white Bvlgari toiletries bag thingy that can possibly (?) pass off as a mini clutch bag. Mummy was pleasantly surprised with it. This kit was much better stocked (toothbrush, toothpaste, some hand cream thingy, amongst other things) and much better looking than that of Singapore Airlines. Nicely done, Emirates!

And finally ... the moment that I've been waiting for ... the commencement of DINNER SERVICE!!!

For appetizers, I chose the Smoked Tuna option. Mummy chose the Cream of Carrot and Orange Soup:

Mummy's Cream of Carrot and Orange Soup with baked cheese straws

My Smoked Tuna dish was pretty good! The only thing that I would have preferred was more wasabi dressing. Mummy's cream of carrot and orange soup, on the other hand, was simply heavenly. I managed to steal a few spoonful of soup and boy was I very impressed. Mummy enjoyed the soup very much as well. Sadly, that was the only highlight of her dish. The bread was alright and the seasonal salad was bland and forgettable.

Soon, our mains were served! I chose the Seafood Medley and Mummy went for the Angus Beef Tenderloin:

Seafood Medley: Sea Bass, Scallop and Prawn in Fish Velouté with Braised Peas and Fennel, Herbed Parpadelle and Red Pepper Coulis

Angus Beef Tenderloin served with Rosemary Jus, Potato Gratin, Green Beans and Courgettes.

Truth be told, my main dish was quite disappointing. The sea bass was dry and the green beans were practically tasteless. It was not an enjoyable dining experience. Saddddddddd.

Mummy's Angus Beef Tenderloin on the other hand, was the polar opposite. IT WAS AMAZING. SUPER DELICIOUS to be precise! Considering how difficult it must be to prepare beef onboard the aircraft, I must say that it was a dish well-done (heh heh heh). Presented beautifully and seasoned wonderfully, Mummy thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I was very very envious. Hahaha.

Next up was dessert, cheese and fruit! I skipped the dessert and chose to go with the cheese board and selection of fruits. Mummy went for the Red Orange Mousse Cake:

    Cheese Board

The Cheese Board was pretty good and the seasonal fruits were sweet and refreshing. But once again, Mummy seemed to have the better deal: her Red Orange Mouse Cake was, in her very own words "PERFECT" and she gave many many thumbs-up. She let me try a (very) small bite (grrrrr) and yes, she was right. It was seriously delicious. Seriously.

Shortly after clearing our tables, we were each offered a cute box of chocolates:

    [IMG]https://becausegoodfooddeservestobeshared.files.wordpress. com/2015/08/img_4844.jpg[IMG]
Godiva chocolates!!! I gave Mummy my box as I'm not really a chocolates kind of person and she enjoyed all four pieces of chocolates very much.

I ended my meal with a nice cup of Latte:

    [IMG]https://becausegoodfooddeservestobeshared.files.wordpress. com/2015/08/img_4850.jpg[IMG]
    Latte
And proceeded to do some reading after that.

Shortly after, the cabin lights grew dim and "stars" appeared:

    [IMG]https://becausegoodfooddeservestobeshared.files.wordpress. com/2015/08/img_4852.jpg[IMG]
    Sleeping under the stars

I wasn't feeling very sleepy so I happily read the flight away. (Mummy was, by now, sound asleep next to me, seat fully converted into a bed. Food coma? Hahaha. She did have a fantastic dinner service though).

Two hours before we touched down, I felt a bit peckish (I know, I know, what's new?) and so I ordered the Beef and Mushroom Pie:

    [IMG]https://becausegoodfooddeservestobeshared.files.wordpress. com/2015/08/img_4857.jpg[IMG]
    Beef and Mushroom Pie
This was pretty delicious! Pretty to look at and delicious to eat!

And shortly after that, the Captain announced that we were beginning our gradual descent into Brisbane International Airport. (SOOOO FASTTTT!!!)

All in all, this flight was a very enjoyable one! Mummy in particular, loved every minute and every thing about it: the gastronomically awesome dinner service, the Bvlgari amenity pack and the flat-bed. Though I did not have such a fantastic dinner service, I still found this flight rather pleasant.

Whilst I'm certain that Emirates would have to up its game with better Business Class seats in the future (like those offered on its A380 aircrafts), flying on this Boing 777-300ER still delivered a solid Business Class experience. I arrived into Brisbane well-rested, refreshed and recharged. And really, that IMHO is what's most important. Nicely done, Emirates! 8.5/10!
