  • SQ and MI to codeshare on TZ

    http://www.straitstimes.com/singapor...ss-to-over-130

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and SilkAir has inked a new codeshare agreement with the SIA Group's low-cost subsidiary Scoot, allowing travellers access to over 30 Scoot-only destinations.

Travellers will now be able to set foot in more than 130 destinations across the group's network.

A joint statement from SIA, SilkAir and Scoot on Tuesday (Dec 5) said that SIA will progressively add its "SQ" designator code while SilkAir will add its "MI" code to Scoot-operated flights between Singapore and 30 destinations served only by Scoot.

The codeshare arrangements will begin with Scoot flights to Athens, Clark, Gold Coast, Hat Yai, Ipoh, Krabi, Kuching and Palembang.

Interesting...so one could book an SQ flight number, and find oneself on an LCC (Even if Scoot is quite a good one.). Wonder how they will manage customer expectations...

Yup! My thought exactly. Buy an SQ ticket and have to pay for a blanket...

On the other hand, perhaps there are benefits to this (As long as the passenger is aware he/she is flying on TZ metal), for example is a multi-sector ticket with one or more sectors on TZ codeshares to plug gaps. Not to mention the possibility of earning Krisflyer miles. Of course, how they work out FF privileges or mileage on codeshares remains a mystery to me...

Scoot's IATA code is TR now.
Singapore Airlines - A great way to fly...

The codeshare arrangement is specific to TR only destination. Imagine buy SQ stock and fly TR to HAK

Passengers automatically get flybageat and free choice to seats

There is no free choice of seats. The statement seem to imply passenger can select Seats when booking scoot ticket on SQ website. But SIA add in " for a fee" in that paragraph.

So many complains on SIA facebook on this.

*** think there will not be miles earn on the scoot segment.

I can see on one level why it makes sense but it'll be a PR nightmare. You'd be a fool to fly to OOL as codeshare when flying to BNE followed by a 1.5 hour airconditioned train ride has you on the Gold Coast.

Or if they are desperate enough to avoid the air train by doing this

So will the opposite be true? Book TR and fly on SQ metal?? If you pay for a basic ticket will they not feed you and switch off the IFE to your seat???
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...

                        Random price checking:

                        HKG-SIN-OOL (27/Feb > 5/Mar)
                        Price on SQ+TR: HK$3847
                        Price on TR+TR: HK$4197

Hmm! Why should I fly TR+TR in that case?
Also I think the price for SQ+TR is very low indeed! The SQ+TR itinerary includes FlyBagEat product bundle already and the only major thing that is missing from SQ is the PTV!

Looks like gutting SQ to feed SCOOT . Tragic decline of SQ. Enjoy the show.

That would be interesting given that Scoot does fly to some Indian destinations that are not even served by SQ or MI. If this means not being able to earn miles like you would with SQ and MI, that would totally suck.
