  • Possible 2nd MRT Line to Airport

    http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...html?cid=FBCNA

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is assessing the possibility of extending the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) from Sungei Bedok station to the future Changi Airport Terminal 5 and the existing Changi Airport station.

Minister for Transport Khaw Boon *** revealed this at the groundbreaking ceremony of the East Coast stretch of the TEL on Thursday (Jul 20).

"It would provide a direct connection from the airport to the city,” said Mr Khaw. “This would benefit travellers and airport staff."

He added that the authority will also be assessing the feasibility of connecting the Cross Island Line (CRL) to Terminal 5 and the new industrial zone serving the airport. "Together, these options enable many commuters who use the MRT network to get from all parts of the the island to the airport with no more than one transfer," Mr Khaw said.

This may not be that ideal, given its very circuitous route and many stations. It also does not cater to the Orchard Hotel belt.

What might be more plausible would be a limited stop service: Orchard, Dhoby Ghaut, City Hall, Promenade, Marine Parade, Airport. Theoretically viable but not so technically given the possible digging that need to take palce in the city

Perhaps the goal was to cater to locals needing to go to the airport ? Current setup may already suffice tourist? Being local this does open up for us rather than need to route through the tourist zone.
