The most logical reason for this is that when the announcement was made, AKL flights SQ281/2 were included in the list of flights to receive the refitted planes, however since then the deal with NZ was struck which will see NZ take over this flight pair in return for allowing SQ to operate SQ285/6 with an A380. So far, the only planes leaving the fleet have been ones with purple cabins. I'm afraid I'm mystified as to how the 772ER refit program would affect a flight to CGK normally scheduled to be flown by a 773 or A330 craft.
There were originally 11 refitted non-ER 777-200's if I remember correctly and the SilverKris mag said there were only 10 left. So I think that one refitted non-ER (regional) 772 has left the fleet.

And apologies about the mistake I made. When I was looking up the flight schedules on SQ's website, the plane listed for SQ956 on Jan 24 was a 777-200. Later when I made a booking for my flight, it changed to 777-300.

Anyone know which one was decommissioned and why SQ would retire a refitted 772 over the three unrefitted ones? I'm hoping that my flight to CGK (SQ956) in three weeks time won't be affected by this.
-SQI. -SRN in the next FY.

Oh I see, you were talking about the previous refit of the SQ and SR series where they refitted SQI through SQN and SRM through SRQ. I don't take much notice of those craft, but I do see that SQI has not been in service for at least a week. I'm not aware of any plans to remove it but they have said a number of 772s are due to be retired. The only reason I can think of why they could be retiring SQI is if it has to be returned to a lessor, but I would have thought all the purple cabin 772s would be on the way out before any of the Givenchy interiors. The most recently 772 removal seems to be SRH.

Well that would definitely solve that mystery. Thanks!

I assume the white rectangle showing the registration would be peeled off once it has been re-registered?

                  • We just returned from a trip to Maldives; on SQ452 from Singapore, was the older, non-refitted 777-200ER (was in economy, wasn't too bad as was quite an empty flight so could stretch out).

Had booked J savers back from MLE through to PER (SQ46). During our OLCI 48hrs our it showed the same, non-refitted bird which we had resigned to. On the day of our flight, when confirming seats, noticed that it had been changed to one of the refitted planes, so that was a very nice surprise! Was 9V-SVL, looks like it went on to do the SIN-AMS route afterwards.

Very fortunate! At the same time J travellers to FCO had a non-refit.

I really can't work out the strategy for these old 772 variants. We know a number are soon to vanish but which ones is anyone's guess. 9V-SQI has been out of action for weeks now, but if it were to leave the fleet, it will mean it is the first refitted interior to be disposed of. Meanwhile 7 old purple ones are still flying about.

SQI is listed on planespotters as being leased. They did seem to indicate they would be returning some 772s to lessors, so that might explain why they are choosing to divest themselves of a plane that is refitted.

SRJ has now gone awfully quiet, so it could be the next NokScoot candidate. How far off is the launch of this airline?

9V-SRH is now officially HS-XBC of NokScoot.
