  • LHR T5 - preview

Some interesting tit bits about LHR T5 due to open on 27 March:

    (registration required)

It sounds somewhat impressive (and I hope so as it's cost more than 7 times the cost of SIN T3! ) but we shall see...

The new concorde room does look nice. However I'm not so sure about the upholstery in the first and club lounges.

It reminds me of the flock wallpaper in certain curry houses...

Wow! Those lounges are nice. SQ should be ashamed for its poor execution of SKL F in T3.

Hmm.. so VS have LHR Clubhouse, LH have the FCT, BA will soon have the T5 Concorde room..

And SQ have the underwhelming SKL in T3.. yup, missed an opportunity there.

wow - nice as it has the 'international feel' to it. About time too as the rest of LHR is antiquated. Somehow, I still prefer the familiarity of SKL.

When I was given that brochure, I just was not impressed at all at the decor.

Maybe I am a bit too contemporary when it comes to architecture and interior design but I find BA's 'Galleries' vile to look at.

But I look forward to trying the Galleries First in the very near future.

There are some nice interactive guides to the new lounges on the BA T5 site now.

                          I quite agree!

I don't see the point of having life-size horses with lamps on their heads! No aesthetic value at all IMHO.

I think the wallpaper and upholstery are William Morris inspired. Some people might love it but it's not my style either. But I'm no interior designer either.

Quite! The decor looks overly fussy for me, and the lamps seem to clash with the designs on the upholstery.

Still, I'd withhold judgment until I actually see the place. I guess I wouldn't mind too much so long as they continue to offer good champagne.

Apart from the "interesting" decor, art (apart from the comments by the Philistines around here , I wonder how well or not the modern works will look after say 10 years ?!?) and fittings (such a clash of patterns as mentioned above but no worse I suppose than the existing gingham BA sofas), looking at the very good walk throughs on Lobster's link my concern is how noisy it's going to be. The lounges are open to the hustle and bustle of the terminal and I know I didn't like the JFK VS CH for precisely that reason.

The Galleries First (i.e. OW emerald) lounge looks quite good - e.g. the wine gallery and the viewing terrace - and not as far as I can see that much inferior than the new Concorde Room.
