It's good that they are doing what the national immigration/security needs to do in the first place.
Some countries like the US, require airlines to submit to them the pax manifest before arrival so their immigration would already have flagged any undesirables before arrival and not waste time doing it at point of arrival. Batch jobs are usually more efficient for checking versus ad-hoc verification as far as systems go - if they can save a few seconds on every pax, the line would move a tad faster.
