How many opups have you ever gotten?
    « Thread started on: Jul 20th, 2006, 10:44am »
    I've had 5 in total.
    2 on MH MEL-KUL from Y to C
    1 on LX LHR-ZRH from Y to C
    1 on CX KUL-HKG from Y to C
and only 1 on my fav gold bird from SYD-SIN C to F
I'm sure there are other members with far better records..... (and one with a far worse record ). What's your stats like?

does having a Y tix but seated in the C-cabin on the SIN-KUL shuttle when they fly 3-class planes count? If Yes, >10
    else just 2
    SQ Y to C SIN-SYD
SK Y to C CDG-CPH (and on my 1st time on them )

Oh man, if you counted THOSE semi opups on the old 313's (and the rare 772 SQ/SY's) today... i'd be well over 25!

Mine are probably around 6 or 7 on SQ (it's been a looong time, though ):
    One SIN-SYD C to F
The rest Y to C on SIN-BKK or BKK-SIN, back when I used to fly that route two or three times a month.

I can only think of 3.
    1 from Y to F on SQ BOM-MAN (inflight as well !).
1 from Y to (what they call) F on CO from BZE - IAH
    1 from Y to J on KL AMS-LIS

    SQ SIN-CGK Y to J

    QF SIN-LHR J to F
    BA MEL-SIN WT+ to J
    BA SIN-LHR WT+ to J
    SQ MEL-SIN Y to J
And quite a few on BA while travelling with my parents ages ago.
I've always considered myself lucky that the op ups even happened at all, considering the upgrade policies of the airlines they happened on.
Perhaps I should check out Traitor Air while I still have oneworld status as I hear they are ridiculously liberal with op ups. *dodges from flames*

Not sure if it's really an opup but only 1 - KL AMS-PEK - everyone was seated in J but got Y meals, service etc.

Can't blame them if they are as dumb as to waste resources and op up SQ apologists travelling on el cheapo fares right?
Mum's only a oneworld sapphire member (BA Silver) and only flies CX occassionally, but has received an op up on CX everytime she flew with them.

I've had 4 Y to J on SQ....2 each on BKK-SIN and SIN-BOM. One as an ES, 3 as an EG, nada as PPS.
Only other airline I've gotten an op-up Y>C is 9W (Jet Airways) on a domestic flight in India.
Does a standby Y ticket to c0ckpit jumpseat count as an op-up? If so, add three more on SQ.

Just the one for me BKK-LHR Y to C on TG. Ended up sitting next a mad old man who kept looking out the window asking where we were. Finally I got out his PTV and showed him the flight map which shut him up for a bit.

Just 'for a bit'? Does that mean he began to pipe up again? I guess sometimes, op-ups are not the blessing we generally assume.

Based on experience from posters on this board, it seems like the SIN-MEL/SYDvv during the school holidays and BKK-SIN on Fri early evenings when travelling in Y seems a good bet.

      Sorry folks... actually, it's 7
Forgot to add my double opup from award Y (X) to 3 class First on a UA 763 last year ORD-SFO.
Had an award in X ORD-SFO, then I SFO-SIN-KUL - got to the counter, told em I'd like to standby for earlier flight, and gently reminded them that I had Business class onward flight on the same ticket and asked if they could do anything (was eyeing a 3 class flight much later in the day, to be honest) They said okay, and assigned me a Y- seat for the original flight on a 752, and gave me the usual blue standby card.
They told me the earlier plane which i wanted to standby on was, as per sched, a 2 class 763 domestic config with no J, so I'd have had to sit in Y+ anyway, despite me having an overall J ticket.
As I waited at the standby flight gate, they did a gate and eqp swap, very late in the game
Next thing i knew, i was no 3 on the standby list. They called no1 and 2, gave them C seats, and I was last - and given an F seat
So is it possible to go from award economy to first? I'd say yes

        6-10.

        2 on CX (1 s/h + 1 l/h)
        1 on IB (s/h)
        3 on BA (1dblupg l/h + 1 l/h)
There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

As posted on another thread, I got 'half' an op-up on SQ281 SIN-AKL earlier this month.

They swapped the SpaceBed equipped 772ER to a 3 class 773 with regional F so I managed (after a little saga) to swap my 11A for 3A.

I have just got another op-up from J to F on SQ 61, BKK - SIN on Dec. 21. That makes it 3 op-ups this year.
