Problem is, I'm not even sure if I can secure a J seat and it's important that I get to London in time . I should be able to know if I get a seat (I don't care Y, J or R now) by tomorrow. Beggars can't be choosers I guess.

Anyway, is there somewhere in the SQ website that has info on overbooked flights? I should have a look at it if they do

You have a confirmed reservation, so the problem is on the side of SQ. I wouldn't be too worried.

Amadeus says that there is 1 free Seat in R at the moment an SQ322.

You can start reading their CoC (Conditions of Carriage - which is available on their website) BUT they do tend to interpret it to suit themselves... Like what most have stated on this thread, DO NOT GIVE UP the fight to get yourself on the flight in the class which you have already paid for. If you really need to get to LHR on time, you might consider taking an earlier flight in the same booking class, in which case you should make it seem that you are doing SQ a favour by altering your schedule (i.e. some form of compensation should be given to you)...

Not sure if this applies to you but this is stated in my e-tickets.
Notice - For tickets sold in USA - Overbooking of Flights

Airline flights may be overbooked, and there is a slight chance that a seat will not be available on a flight for which a person has a confirmed reservation. If the flight is overbooked, no one will be denied a seat until airline personnel first ask for volunteers willing to give up their reservation in exchange for compensation of the airline's choosing. If there are not enough volunteers, the airline will deny boarding to other persons in accordance with its particular boarding priority. With few exceptions, including failure to comply with the carrier's check-in deadline (which are available upon request from the air carrier), persons denied boarding involuntarily are entitled to compensation. The complete rules for the payment of compensation and each airline's boarding priorities are available at all airport ticket counters and boarding locations. Some airlines do not apply these consumer protections to travel from some foreign countries, although other consumer protections may be available. Check with your airline or your ticket agent.

I wonder if one can still get bumped off if he has already checked-in online?

If that is so, it is best to check-in as early as possible, wouldn't it? Unless one is hoping to get bumped off for compensation or op up.

I tried OLCI and it won't let me, it just said it is "open 48-2 hours prior to departure blah blah check in at the airport"

Finally, some great news! SQ secured a Y (83D, hurray ) seat for me, but I can standby for a J seat at the airport if anyone doesn't show up in time or cancels his booking. For the compensation, I get a Krisshop voucher, 8000Kf miles. Does anyone think it is a fair compensation?

edit: They are also refunding the difference between J and Y fares. Wonder how long will it take?

Better than nothing, and you seem happy to be in Y, so I guess it worked out for you... how much was the Krisshop voucher? I've heard of friends in Y SIN-SYD getting 700SGD as compensation... that's cold hard cash, not miles either.

Is it all it could have been? Maybe not (and maybe not by a long shot)

Is it better than nothing? Yep, I would say so

Would someone else have accepted that compensation if you didn't to allow you to fly in J? Who knows... maybe, but also maybe not... and if not, you might have been Op-upped into R.

Most important is that it sounds like it worked out for you. You get to fly to your destination as per your previous confirmed timings.

I will only find out how much is the voucher worth upon check-in or once onboard, when they present it to me. Well, I am desperate to get to LHR in time, so I guess you can say I am happy to get a Y seat at least

Well, I would not have gone that option... that's strictly my opinion, however. No specified amount, they could write $1 on the voucher or $100, too open-ended a conclusion to be a conclusion, I think.

They presented me with two Krisshop vouchesr worth SGD100 x2. And they also sent 2 ground staff to escort me through CIQ and the T3 SKL. IMHO SQ still loves me

I'm guessing not into SKL F

Anyway, looks like you're happy with the outcome and that's what matters!

Sorry you had to downgrade, spw21, but I'm glad that the flight worked out for your desired times. SQ322 has historically had very healthy loads, which makes it the riskiest of the SIN-LHR flights.

How are you enjoying the weather in London now?

I'm not sure whether to take this as good news or not. Im glad the op is happy with the situation but it would depend on how much the ultimate cash back you get. Even though SQ is a famously stingy airline. 2 x 100 usd vouchers and 8k miles is not a lot IMHO. And im guessing that the op will not reveal it.

Am very interested in the outcome as once on QF my boss had a fully paid business ticket and got bumped to economy. It was not pretty. Just wondering whether SQ would do it as well....
