Pardon my ignorance, but why wouldn't there be government/state travel as well from/to Berlin? It's obviously not all tourists there, I'd imagine

Well, exactly. I would base this on my observation of a surging growth of new, high-quality office buildings throughout Berlin in the last 20 years, combined with the opening of a massive new airport to serve the city. While I don't want to get caught up in the bizarre political circus surrounding this (now comically delayed) airport, there must be some degree of need that the old set of pre-unification airports couldn't provide.

LH may have no plans to operate long-hauls out of Berlin, but we need to put this in the context of their all-for-Frankfurt strategy that has seen them axe many long-hauls out of MUC. In this instance, SQ gained a lot of business, increasing the load factor on SQ327/8 which has seen the end of seasonal capacity reductions on these flights.

I think foreign carriers could be dipping their toe back into Berlin, but whether TG would have any clues as to how to do this successfully...

MUC is a totally different story over TXL / BER. Munich and surrounding area has lots of industry plus banking and insurance and all. Business traffic is way, way better there than Berlin could ever hope to achieve. Government travel would be small (plus they fly LH) and the business / industry base in and around Berlin / Brandenburg is weakish at best when compared with the powerhouse Munich down south.

Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to see some long-haul out of there at some point, but I wouldn't count on it. The best you will likely see is ME carriers connecting via DXB / AUH / DOH.

Thanks for the insight, demue, I actually found that short snippet very useful. Didn't realise things were so weak up North. I mean, isn't Hamburg also one of the powerhouses? Certainly feels very, very wealthy up there and quite alot of activity/port movements up there...

Yes folks in HAM are well off, but the population base is not that massive and in regards to business it falls still behind MUC and then FRA. Plus those folks from HAM either fly ME carriers or may be even BA out of HAM and go via the DXB / AUH / DOH / LHR hubs or connect via FRA / MUC domestic to international. I doubt they will hop on the ICE or fly to TXL / BER to catch a flight from there with many more options out of the two other key domestic hubs. All would be one-stops too so not worth it.

These Air Force Guru's are now reconsidering the stupid decision to move Thai Smile flights to DMK, and discovering issues with air traffic rights that were given to TG and not Smile.

I sincerely hope you are all making the most of these free weekly laughs. You normally have to pay good money for this sort of stuff.

It certainly "improves" the level of frustration for frequent TG flyers. On the other hand, those going to HYD for instance may be pleased to find out that their planned A320 service will instead be 772, as shown in the airlineroute link (at least "planned" for now anyway...)

It's making my head spin just looking at it, without trying to even figure it out for my flights at the end of March and mid-June with them.

MAD being dropped, at the moment anyway. But in true TG style it's being dropped shortly after it increases...

Based on latest inventory update as of 02FEB15, THAI is ending Bangkok – Madrid service, as reservation for travel on/after 07SEP15 is closed. In Summer 2015 season, THAI operates 3 weekly Boeing 777-200ER service, with 4th weekly added from 09JUN15.

                        TG948 BKK0005 – 0800MAD 777 x357
                        TG949 MAD1300 – 0605+1BKK 777 x357

In addition, THAI has filed 3 weekly 777-300ER service to Madrid for service on/after 25OCT15 (Winter 2015/16 schedule), however reservation is also closed.

Are you sure FRA-DUS is only an hour by train? I'd guess it would be an hour from Koln.

A direct ICE from the airport to Dusseldorf Hbf can be as short as 1h10m, although around 1h20m on average, and up to 1h40m.

Remember that this stretch is a true high speed at 300km/h

Did it a couple of weeks ago to connect with SQ325. The train trip was exactly 1h 13. The train is easy- the downside is the endless labrynth of escalators and concourses you then have to navigate through to get to SQ check-in with your luggage.

Next time I've got an air connection on an LH codeshare. Flight takes about the same time- longer if I add the trip from Düsseldorf Hbf to DUS. Advantage is at FRA, having no luggage to deal with, only passport control.

I wish SQ would codeshare with Deutsche Bahn like LH and QF do. Then I could drop off my luggage in Düsseldorf.

Booking TG649 a few weeks back it was noted as B787 on the website. Ten minutes later when getting tickets it changed to a A330 and today I got a new ticket changing it to a B773.

The flight is 5wks off so no idea all what can happen in the meantime yet.
