Anyone knows what the chance of getting SYE instead of a retrofitted 73A on SIN-HND-SIN this week ?

Well, it'll be based on luck I guess. Last time SYE did SIN-HND was on the 20th of this month.

SQ won't compensate if I end up on SYE instead of the refurbished ones right ? I am booked on J class.

Melbourne just copped SYE and SYB on SQ217/218 on the last two days respectively, according to flight24.com

So I guess you can get dealt the old rubbish even if you were expecting a 77W, let alone a 73A.

If you're flying SQ to/from Melbourne then get ready for any aircraft in the fleet because we are the city SQ just love to stuff around with.

I wonder... Do SQ have an ancient 737 parked out in a desert somewhere?

Any A380 rumours for MEL-SIN in June 2012?

When doing a dummy KF redemption booking, SQ228 and SQ218 are operated by A380. But dummy commercial booking still shows as 77A?

Weird, although nothing would surprise me given it's MEL.

SQ218 has never been an A380. SQ228 was for about a year before the 388 was moved onto the earlier SQ238.

For a few days back in November, I think it was, SQ228 was operated by an A380- possibly because a 73A was out of service and they had a spare new A380 waiting before going into service on the JFK service soon.

January 15 sees MEL lose its A380 so it can be redeployed onto FRA/JFK route, and we get an old 747 in return, but there's been a lot of mixed information about which flight the 747 will actually be deployed on. One version had the 73A moving to SQ238 and the 747 on SQ228, but only for a while, maybe, who knows?

I did a dummy commercial booking the other day and got a 72A come up on SQ228. The flight often loses the 73A and gets upgraded to a 77W, or downgraded to 9V-SYE fairly often. It's just how SQ likes to show its love for MEL and its SQ supporters who keep wondering what we did to offend head office.

Yes, checking flight24 website, it claims SQ237/228 has just been flown using 9V-SRP

If that's accurate, either they had no F bookings on either flight, or somebody got the job of doing a lot of apologising....

According to the Dummy KF Booking :

                  SQ227 (SIN-MEL, 2100-0620) and SQ228 (MEL-SIN 1545-2145) is operated by A380.

                  SQ217 (0955-1915) and SQ 218 (0005-0555) operated by 77W.

                  SQ237 (0045-1005) and SQ238 (1000-1550) operated by 73A --> *** seems to make any sense.

That's how it used to be back when the A380 was first introduced to MEL in late 2009.

Maybe KF has discovered a portal to the land that time forgot?

The A380's are back! And will indeed return back to it's original MEL schedule!

As per 05JAN12 GDS timetable and inventory display, Singapore Airlines from 25MAR12 once again is to operate Airbus A380 aircraft on Singapore – Melbourne service. (MEL departure eff 26MAR12)

The A380 flight to Melbourne was to scheduled to end from 15JAN12 until further notice, however, routine schedule update on 05JAN12 is showing the return of A380 service from 25MAR12. The A380 is to operate flight SQ227/228, replacing Boeing 747-400/777-300.

                      Schedule:

                      SQ237 SIN0045 – 1005MEL 773 D
                      SQ217 SIN0955 – 1915MEL 77W D
                      SQ227 SIN2100 – 0620+1MEL 388 D

                      SQ218 MEL0005 – 0555SIN 77W D
                      SQ238 MEL1000 – 1550SIN 773 D
                      SQ228 MEL1545 – 2145SIN 388 D
                      as per airlineroute

Thanks for that update- this is the news I'd been waiting to hear for so long!

Only thing that annoys me is that I'm travelling on SQ228 on March 13

Still, one who has my username can't complain about plans to finally increase the capacity of SQ228 back to what it should be!

                            Super fast turn-around at MEL?

                            SQ237 SIN0045 – 1005MEL 773 D
                            SQ238 MEL1000 – 1550SIN 773 D

Perhaps we will some time adjustment?

                              There will be a timetable change on SQ237/238, should look like this for a better turn around time;

                              SQ237 SIN0045 – 1010MEL 773 D
                              SQ217 SIN0955 – 1915MEL 77W D
                              SQ227 SIN2100 – 0620+1MEL 388 D

                              SQ218 MEL0005 – 0555SIN 77W D
                              SQ238 MEL1120 – 1550SIN 773 D
                              SQ228 MEL1545 – 2145SIN 388 D

I quite happy SQ is returning the A380's back to MEL so soon, possibly they are scared of EK & MH's A380 services commencing in 2012?

I'm just glad to see somebody at head office had the sense to finally turn this situation around and try to get Singapore Airlines being talked about again amongst Melbourne residents.

In terms of schedule changes for SQ237/238, I might be wrong but I think back when the same aircraft did both of these flights, SQ237 used to depart SIN around midnight rather than being closer to 0100.

I've got my parents booked on SQ228 in May, so hopefully I can try to get them onto the upper deck, if we end up getting one of the older cabin layouts.

Don't suppose anyone has info as to where the new all F upper-deck craft are headed for next?
