  • History: Final MSA Int'l Sked in 1972

    http://airlineroute.blogspot.com/200...-schedule.html

This is the final schedule of Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA) for the summer season of 1972.

Last operation was on 30SEP72, and MSA split into MAS and SIA. Note briefly in 1972 before the split, Singapore Airlines was called "Mercury Singapore Airlines/MSA".

      Wow! Brings back memories.

AFAIK MSA was never Mercury Singapore Airlines before morphing into SIA.

I am sure they would have like to have kept the MSA livery and branding associated with it.

The jets(707s & 737s) went to SIA, the props(F27s) to MAS.

Sounds like a poor deal but the priority was domestic for MAS.

I'm sure Malaysia objected/would have objected to Mercury Singapore Airline.

1972 Flight International's annual World Airline Directory lists "SIA" under Mercury Singapore Airlines

MSA was short for Malaysia-Singapore Airlines before the split n not "mercury-S'pore Airlines.

When Singapore Airlines was formed on 28JAN72, it used the initial MSA as Mercury Singapore Airlines, which sparked a row between Singapore and Malaysia.
