This new schedule is effective May 1 right? Because SQ237/238 change to a 77WR late next month and the schedule still holds the same til then.
No, the timing changes to SQ217, 227, 237 and 238 take effect from late March with the half-year changeover.

When are you flying out? Look even today it got a 77WR (SWE). Usually these swaps happen depending on what route the 3-class 77W gets assigned to and also if a 77W is needed for maintenance.

Hopefully you'll be lucky to at least get a 77WR.

            • Looking at my May booking - the 2 evening departures will be the 773ERs and the 2 morning/day flights will be the A350s.

              • SQ237/238 also got SWL, a 77WR as well. The second consecutive day with a switch until the official switch on Mar 25

I have a booking on this flight in July but when I was recently notified of a change to the flight they just changed the flight number to SQ6001 then changed it back to SQ237 2 hours later. The change you outline above will actually change the date of all bookings since it moves across midnight.

I'm not too excited about SQ217 getting any later than it is already.
Well my partner flew SQ247 a couple weeks ago and it's dinner + continental breakfast in J. Bear in mind SQ247 currently has a 0200 departure ex SIN.

                  Yucks.

                  • Well it's been a while for MEL, but routesonline has posted:

Singapore Airlines during the month of June and July 2019 once again increases Singapore – Melbourne service, where overall frequency increases from 32 to 35 weekly. Planned schedule as follows.

                    SQ267 SIN0025 – 0950MEL 772 134
                    SQ237 SIN0025 – 0950MEL 77W x134
                    SQ207 SIN0745 – 1710MEL 359 D
                    SQ217 SIN1100 – 2025MEL 388 D
                    SQ247 SIN1945 – 0510+1MEL 772 x237
                    SQ257 SIN1945 – 0510+1MEL 77W 237
                    SQ227 SIN2200 – 0725+1MEL 77W D

                    SQ218 MEL0005 – 0600SIN 388 D
                    SQ238 MEL0935 – 1525SIN 77W D
                    SQ258 MEL1125 – 1710SIN 772 134
                    SQ228 MEL1540 – 2130SIN 77W D
                    SQ248 MEL1645 – 2240SIN 772 x134
                    SQ208 MEL1825 – 0015+1SIN 359 D

                    SQ217/218 operated by A380 from 17JUN19 to 31JUL19 (SIN departure), replacing 777-300ER. SQ247/248 service extends to/from Wellington.

Overall a great result to go 5x daily for the busy holiday period, but it takes quite a while to figure out what is going on though. To clarify, they are filling the gaps of the days that WLG flights don't operate, but rather than sitting the plane on the tarmac in MEL while it would normally be crossing the Tasman and back, non-WLG tagged flights will 'return' as SQ258 5 hours or so earlier out of MEL, although it's not the same aircraft doing the 'returning'. There is also aircraft swapping happening on these days between SQ237 and SQ257, which would be required by gate usage in MEL. SQ237 is renumbered SQ267 on these days although only the aircraft changes, nothing else.

On days* that a WLG tag from SIN operates, the following flight pairs occur as normal:
                    SQ207/208 (A350), SQ217/218 (A380), SQ247/248- the WLG flight (B772), SQ227/238 & SQ 237/228 (both B77W).

On the other three days*, these flight pairs to/from MEL will operate:
                    SQ207/208 (A350), SQ217/218 (A380), SQ267/258 (B772), SQ227/238 & SQ257/228 (both B77W).

I think SQ257/8 have been used once before as MEL flight numbers for additional holiday season flights but SQ267 is definitely a new sight for me.

(*By 'day' I'm including the 0020 departure for the following 'date' as it gets too complicated otherwise. The day cycle I am outlining commences with SQ207 departing SIN.)

                    • but one of the flights is still a old 772

                      • Just made a booking for near end of the year, so I'll be surprised how they juggle up schedules and planes by then. Had to tweak the connection to avoid that old 772, not really interested in paying J for that anymore.

Is the J price the same for the 772 flights?

                          • I general, yes, seems to be. In my case 772 would even haven been more expensive since I got a D pricing while the 772 didn't have any further seats priced as D. Since I don't mind a slightly longer stopover I rather go 773ER then.

                            • According to the official Australian Government data, which can be accessed here:

                              https://bitre.gov.au/publications/on...ivity_1901.pdf

                              We observe the following:
                              • SIN-MEL has surpassed SIN-SYD to become the busiest international route of Australia.
                              • Overall shows 7% increase for SQ which on this rate, we should see SQ to increase Australia by at least 1x daily every year to cope with the demand.

I think SQ should consider these:
                              • Merge SQ247, 248, 257 and 258 into one daily service to MEL with A380
                              • Reroute SQ 288 to CBR via MEL
                              • Re-time SQ 212 to 22:00 - 23:00 departure ex-SYD
                              • Introduce new 6th daily to Sydney, departing SIN at 9:35am, arrive SYD at 8:15pm, then depart SYD at 22:40 and arrive AKL at 04:15
                              • Return leg from AKL departs at 05:30 and arrive SYD at 07:05, then depart SYD at 08:55 and arrive SIN at 14:15.
                              • The only red-eye service from East Coast Australia to NZ is the JQ217 leaving Melbourne. I believe the new SQ red eye service to AKL will be a lot successful than MEL-WLG. Moreover, the 05:30 departure from AKL will enable NZ passengers to arrive Sydney before 9am, which benefits greatly for business travellers ex-AKL.

                                We observe the following:
Severely poor loading for MEL-WLG, 30% load factor during January, the traditional peak season for Australian and New Zealand travel. I suggest SQ to cut MEL-WLG and transfer all passengers to Virgin Australia, which will be more economical.
SIN-MEL has surpassed SIN-SYD to become the busiest international route of Australia.
That shows 5x Daily is not enough. I think SQ should deploy 2 x A380 daily to MEL or consider increasing MEL to 6 x daily.
Overall shows 7% increase for SQ which on this rate, we should see SQ to increase Australia by at least 1x daily every year to cope with the demand.
not sure whether i see wrongly, but i saw seat utilization of 90% for SQ between New Zealand and Australia... (page 19).
