Awesome photos and a most enjoyable TR, yflyer!

Looking at your pics, Mrs yflyer must be an awesome chef too.

After reading your TR, I dug up pics of my old trips to Tas but they looked pathetic....hahahaha....

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, KC*! Glad you enjoyed reading it!

Yes, Mrs yflyer is quite an amazing cook...she does both local/Chinese and Western dishes, and has recently been dabbling in Japanese and Korean cuisine too...and after recent trips to China, she now keeps a stash of Sichuan ma la peppers (I.e. Flower peppers) in the kitchen to liven up all kinds of dishes...

Truly enjoyable TR. Love the food porn

It's always been at the back of my mind to visit Tasmania. Never find the time

Living the holiday through your TR is a good alternative! :big grin:

Boeing 717 is something I must fly too

Not many rear engined planes around nowadays!

Thanks, 9V-SIA! Food was a major highlight on this vacation!

Yes, really enjoyed flying on the 717 -- not many opportunities to do so...

Another great and detailed TR, yflyer. Credit to you for taking the time and effort doing these.

A few years back I was going to Launy two or three times a year as we were doing a fair bit of business there. Sadly I used to just fly in and out from MEL and never saw much of the place, which is a shame. I once went there for three hours for a meeting.

A few our our Engineers have spent a good deal of time in Hobart and loved it.

No, as yflyer says they have a belt now.

Why is that place in 'in land' Launy rather than in 'port city' Hobart ?.

It's actually near Beauty Point, up North

Quite a serene spot, actually, and near lots of wine, with a chance to see some echidnas!

Thanks, MAN Flyer! Spent a long time reading the TR's here as a lurker before deciding to try writing a brief TR (The trigger being my first ride on a 787, which at that point was still quite a novelty)...Nowadays, when I write these things, the challenge I have is deciding which details to leave out !

These short turnarounds are no fun at all, especially to a pleasant place like Launceston. Three hours must have been a record, even for you!

I envy anyone who is required to travel to Hobart for work or business. On work trips, the business at hand is always the priority, but it makes so much difference when you are in a city/country where there is a lot to do after hours as well...

All we ever wanted to do while driving around the National Parks in Tasmania was to spot an echidna...these hedgehog-like creatures have an endearingly clumsy and slow walk.

We spotted only one on this trip, near Freycinet National Park...we stopped the vehicle and the kids tumbled out, camera in hand, to snap pictures...

This was the best shot that my older girl took of an echidna...from about 2 meters away, before it ambled back into the vegetation...

We 'cheated', in case that wasn't too clear - you can find plenty of live echidnas at Platypus House in Beauty Point, a paid tourist attraction which I felt was well worth the money. Didn't see any in the wild, so, good spotting!! Cute little critters. Managed to touch one...

Yes, really adorable looking, although I wouldn't want to touch one myself
