  • hopefully by then, SQ should have most of its new planes and do not need to replace the 773s with 77Ws as the new regionals would be carryong more pax too than the current 773s.

    • The 773A provides F, which is apparently quite important to the nouveau riche of Southeast Asia, who fly F regionally and connect to Suites on the 779 or 380.

I guess it'd either that or a 787-10, and getting an F product certified for the 787 may be too much trouble. A denser J cabin may also help increase the amount of available seats - basically making J and Y capacity comparable with the A350 regional.

SQ exercised 4 options for the A350 after cancelling 7 and swapping another 7 to the ULR in 2015:

Thus SQ has 67 A350s delivered and on order with 16 options left.

I doubt the 77Ws will stay after the 779s arrive, save for a few newer frames that could be refurbished (say SMU-SNC). But it’s uneconomical to operate 77Ws on very short flights.

However, the 78X and the A359 are both shorter than the 773 so having F + a dense J cabin on those planes mean a reduction of overall capacity relative to the old 773s.

SQ could exercise some A350 options for a small subfleet of regional A35Ks for a one on one replacement of the 773As... or install regional Fs on a few of their upcoming order for 779s.

And CPH goes to A359 as well (again?)

If my memory's correct, this spells the end for 772 long haul services at Singapore Airlines.

Well CPH switched to 77W a while back due to the lack of A350 availability but we've expected to see the route go A350 for some years. It became untenable to keep flying such an old product (the 772) to Scandinavia and SK could hardly have been pleased to codeshare their passengers onto it.

IST is currently the only long haul 772 route left, so this definitely does spell the end. According to SQ's figures, they will have retired all but one of the 772 long haul fleet by the end of March 2020.

                    • CPH route switch to A350 from October was announced back in May, only the increase to daily from January 2020 was loaded yesterday.

Routesonline not yet reflecting 5th weekly IST flight from 4 April 2020.

Yes, about 40% are replacing the 772ER fleet, about 40% replaced the 77Ws on secondary routes to Europe and the remaining 20% have opened up new routes thus adding overall fleet capacity.
