Stumbled upon this while looking through the The Age's (Melbourne broadsheet) online polling archives. It's just a small online poll, but for what it's worth:

Politically I've never liked the Age but this might just have marginally raised my opinion of them.
I've always held the hypothesis that the Sydney-centrism of QF means that for many Melbournians seeking to travel overseas, SQ is the default home carrier 'Connecting Melbourne 3 times daily to rest of the world.' SQ often shines in the range of destinations offered and the convenience of a more or less direct route on many of these destinations (you'd have to go via SYD or SIN on many QF routes anyway). And of course - the legendary SQ service, though to be fair QF has re-positioned itself since 2002 as a fairly strong competitor service-wise. JMHO. *Paffy we need a flame shield smiley*
Bizarrely, the poll also included KLM and BA when both airlines have not flown to MEL since yonks ago.
International carrier : Which is your preferred international carrier?
Qantas - 31%
British Airways - 5%
Malaysian Airlines - 4%
Singapore Airlines - 34%
KLM - 1%
