  • The search for Candy continues! (To Europe and Back, including the SQ A380 in R)

    Hello SQTalk, and Merry Christmas!

It's been a while since our last trip report! Mummy made us stay at home the last few times she went away , but she promised us a nice treat for Christmas if we behaved ourselves. Seems like we've passed!

Mummy's booked us to go like this:

    KUL-SIN on SQ J
    SIN-LHR on SQ R (A380! yippee!)
    LHR-FCO on BA Y (T5! yippee!)
    FCO-LHR on BA Y
    LHR-ARN on BA Y
    ARN-FRA on SK J
    FRA-BKK on TG F
    and finally
    BKK-KUL on LH F

Ever since we went on the A380 last year, we've been wondering about the 12 sweets mummy said was at the bottom of the grand staircase of the A380. This time mummy says she's booked us in seats near the stairs so we'll be better able to look for it

We're at T-32 for the first leg now, and mummy should really get off her bum and do OLCI for us, but she says she's busy and has no time.

We've preassigned 3F for Leroy, and 4F for Bubba on SQ318. Our plan is to sneak Aunty P and mummy onboard inside our rollaboards! Sounds like a plan

More to come as we go along!

        Hello SQTalk,

finally got some pics to share - Won't go too heavily into the KUL-SIN route except to note the fact that despite the new operating Model, and the proliferation of all the Low cost carriers on this route, J operated full on SQ119 on Friday night. Menu in J is the same - either a Chicken Hoisin croissant, sometimes a chicken pita, sometimes a salmon sandwich. Can't say they're all terribly appealing, but it is only a 40 minute ride.

Standard legroom on the regional service. This is 9V-SRQ

Changi at night is such a hive of activity - people going places, and the sheer organisation that has to go into making each and every flight happen is mind boggling!

        Just our luck it's A21

Still, after having done this route a few times now, we think mummy's got mixed feelings about the timing and frequency of the flights. There's still no super early or super late flight from either end, and that really cuts the window of opportunity for anyone from KUL to do a same day connect quite substantially.

The A380 - now a Leroy and Bubba favourite

Boarding passes in Hand from KUL - mummy got one of ours reprinted with a T3 printer at the SKL to see the difference. We think the new one (with the single stripe on top) has nicer fonts, but the old one looks better

Had a bit of a wander around the airport. Mummy didn't want us to eat too much cause she says we're fat. Caught up with Leroy's daddy too! as he was going somewhere as well.

We then got bundled off to the Transit hotel as mummy didn't want to hang around in the lounge, so we had a nice sleep for a few hours.

Wakey wakey rise and shine, Aunty P, Mummy and the both of us wandered around looking at clothes and stuff, not long after, we got called to our gate - B4 yesterday. 9V-SKB, having just returned from London, was going back there today with us. Poor thing, having to work so hard
Being an ultralight aircraft, we wonder if it has enough fuel to get us there!

Rows are called in an orderly fashion here at SIN - and we're onboard in a short time.

Immediately, we've set about looking for our sweets!

Alas same result as last year - there's no candy at the bottom of the stairs

At this time, mummy's gotten really annoyed with us - and we're told to pipe down or else we'd have to get off. So we're all buckled in with cousin Blueberry - who thought it'd be nice to come along for the ride too.

It's 13 hours and 15 minutes scheduled today - 6765 miles. A quick jaunt around the corner for Aunty SKB really.

And we're off - at 1310pm, and just as we're getting airborne - we spot 9V-SKC (we think). We think she's going to SYD later that day.

Disappointing result is all forgotten though - as there's some really nice stuff on the menu!

Incidentally, it's the same one as posted by uncle KeithMel a few days ago

Load today is 385 in Y, 58 (+ 2 tech crew) in J and 8 in R. All the window suites are occupied, leaving 2CD and 3CD empty.

Struggling to gain speed and height - mummy says we're to go on a diet immediately.

It's traditional Satay for starters today - possibly a touch drier than we'd have liked, but still yummy nonetheless

Not long after, they've laid out the table for us. As depicted elsewhere on SQTalk - you can have a partner and 3 bears join you in your suite for meals. not bad, 5 heads in a suite! At least we've got some metal cutlery now too!

Bubba starts with a carefully controlled infusion of Krug. Don't know why, but the flute doesn't have logos like F does.

                Caviar for starters

                Chicken Broth soup for Leroy

                and Fennel soup for Bubba

Leafy salad comes next - with a choice of Japanese Dressing or Almond (could've been Walnut) Dressing - both equally good!

For mains, we selected the beef with mashed potatos (quite alright, but we suspect the short knife would have had trouble if it was less tender)

Aunty P donning her bib for the soft shell crab in sweet and sour sauce and Mantou and rice

The crab seemed to lack a little bit of an edge in Freshness, but was still quite tasty.

                    And for desserts:

A peach tart, and rosemary ice cream

The tart was alright, but rosemary ice cream is very much an acquired taste. For us 1 year old bears, not to our liking

The cabin crew noticed this, so they brought us two choices:

Vienetta with Mango Sauce from J

And a chocolate bar from Nestle from Y

Both far more mainstream choices - which we quite enjoyed!

more to come once they get uploaded !

After Lunch, the crew sorta winds down - and they start taking their rest shifts. SQ318, being a day flight, makes it kinda hard to have a sleep, simply because you're extending daylight. Means we start to misbehave!

First, we go through the motions and wait for mummy to fall asleep before we go running around the plane. Mummy tucks us and cousin blueberry into bed. The Suite bed is IOHO, the best bed in the sky there is now. Mummy says she got offered an extra duvet for extra padding, but she found the standard setup quite sufficient.

Cousin blueberry then had a wonderful idea (he's very clever) - what if the loads were low, could you turn the double center suites into something for the use of one person?

                          drumroll:

Presenting to you: a class beyond Suites! (you heard it here first!)

                          Blueberry Class! - copyright Blueberry

You take the center partition down, but only convert one side to a bed.

Crawling across, is easy. So you get your bed and your seat

Of course, in the first picture, you can't use your tray table, so, a simple maneuver - and it's up again

Access to your bed however, is still quite easy.

There you have it! Blueberry Class Tm. A class beyond Suites! A class that is yours alone and all that.

Some more never before seen angles of this cabin (this is hard work!)

Also, by special request from Uncle T, here is a pic of the breakfast table

Off we go, wandering through the whole plane Tis quiet! although from what we could tell, not many people were actually sleeping! 5 days before Christmas, it's all quiet on the upper deck

                              Upper deck Y

Rear crew seats at the back of the lower deck

Everything's quiet now, some 6-7 hours into the flight. But mummy really ought to stop taking us on trips to dangerous places! Luckily she drives quite fast!

Danger aside, there's some stunning scenery to be had though
