  • First TG F flight in a while, some thoughts...

I did TG476 up from SYD last week and realised it was my first TG F flight for almost six months, which would have been unheard of over the last few years when I averaged 15-20 flights a year.

It was the new nine seat F cabin 744 but unfortunately three of the nine seats were out of action, so it was handy that there was only four of us in F. The seat I was it wouldn't let us kill the lights either so it was effectively four out of nine not working properly.

I do like the new PJ's, much better than both the gawdy 'pink' ones and the later light blue ones. For those who haven't seen these latest ones they are a darker blue and the tops have three buttons. The little pouch they come in is pretty cool. It was the day after the Kings Birthday so no special food menu but they have got a Guest Champagne, or 'Special Champagne on December 2013' which is Dom Ruinart 2002. Amazingly they had a few bottles of this as well as plenty Dom, which is good for TG as they are great at advertising drinks they don't have. Silver Rimowa Amenity kits were handed out and I heard other pax ask is they had any other colours, which they didn't.

I have to say the crew was one of the best I have ever had on TG, mainly because they all seemed to be in a fabulous mood for some reason rather than none or the odd one or two.

All in all a great flight, spoiled slighty by arriving at a remote gate, although they did pile those of us in F on a separate bus.

Just did a return trip on TG SIN-BKK-KIX

    SIN-BKK sector was on a B744 in 1K while BKK-KIX was on an A380 in 1A.

Service was great. Got PJs but didnt use them as the amount of sleeping time didnt justify changing into them. Champagne was DP 2004 and it was surprisingly smooth.

I had purchased a separate ANA domestic sector from KIX to HND and was once again surprised when a ground staff escorted us from the TG flight, pass security, assisted us in checking in for the ANA flight and showed us to the gates.

Had thought after the TG flight we would be left to "fend" for ourselves.

Just got off the KIX to BKK flight and in TG FCL's semi-private room.
Service on return flight was even better. They stayed out of the way, and seemed to be very good at predicting when their assistance was needed.

Although the lounge staff seemed to be in a bad mood. Orders and request were met with frowns and she even rolled her eyes once when making a massage appointment.

A couple more flights and maybe you can resurrect the "TG - consistently inconsistent" thread

        Which SIN-BKK flight had a B744?

Most likely a 744 operating as 2-class aircraft and he was in C but they opened the F cabin and seated folks there (with C service). If you have an onward in TG F you got a good shot at those seats.

I'm rather annoyed with the colours available on those rimowa kits... last week i got the umpteenth dark goldish one again... silly. Just dumped it into the amenity kit box at home with the others...

I did mention that it was a last minute equipment swap by TG. although this swap was more than welcomed by me.

Who'll say no to flying with the Queen of the Skies? Haha!

As my SO and I were connecting to another TG F flight, we were automatically placed in the "first" class section of the 747, albeit in the middle seats. I called TG to try to change to 1A and 1K as it was only "blocked" instead of occupied but was told that was not possible. If I wanted window seats on the 747, they'll have to move me to quote "normal business class seats" unquote.

But luckily on the flight 1A and 1K was empty and a quick request to the flight manager allowed us to move over! Awwwww Yessss!

In the nose section, there were 3 of us connecting to a TG F flight, the remaining ones were all TG ROP Gold pax. Evident from all the luggage tags. So I just assumed that if a 3-class plane was used on a 2-class segment, they'll put connecting F pax and their own high-level ROP pax in the nose.

A week after my flight I got an email informing me I could pre-order my meal.

Indeed. They send the 346's down sometimes as well. On the Sunday afternoon flight down from BKK I got a 744 on two successive Sunday afternoon flights ex-BKK last year.

Call me juvenile but i'd fly F just for the rimowa kits and the ocassional DOM.
