Default Reduction to SIN-LAX frequency

I was aboard SQ 36 yesterday and was told they are reducing to one none-stop daily flight. SQ 35/36 operates Sun-Wed-Fri while SQ 37/38 operates daily.

They are re-purposing the A350ULR to a New York - SIN flight.

There have already been cuts announced previously, effective October 2020 (source:https://mainlymiles.com/2019/11/17/s...hicago-coming/)

From the start of the winter 2020 / 2021 schedule on 25th October 2020 the ‘additional’ three-times weekly SQ35/36 flights will cease, leaving Los Angeles with a daily non-stop A350 ULR service.
In any case, 2x daily SIN-EWR in addition to the existing SIN-FRA-JFK seems a little too much premium capacity in light of the current economic environment and sentiment for business travel.

I am sincerely hoping SQ will open ORD and/or ATL via HKG. UA recently cancelled HKG-ORD and nobody has started HKG-ATL.

given the current climate, doubt will be anytime soon. even if it is in the works, might have been delayed.

Tells you something about the demand, doesn’t it?

So what are they going to do with the 2 ULR planes? Refit into normal A359?

Double-down on New York apparently.

Could be an interesting way of finally entering the Australia - USA market if the PEY sells cheaply enough. I'd rather travel via SIN to New York in PEY than a direct flight to LAX followed by a 5 hour flight crammed into a 737. It's not the fastest route but it compares better with Australia - NYC than it does Australia - LAX or SFO where US domestic isn't needed to complete the journey.

Not sure what SQ will do with the 2 extra ULRs come October. There are rumours of SQ starting non-stop to Chicago or other N America cities, but up to now there have been no such announcements. As any new route, SQ usually announces at least 6 months or more ahead and to do the necessary marketing and development as well as establish sales with agencies etc. Hence doubt if SQ will launch any new US cities by Oct/Nov or this year.

Go-ahead might have been pushed back due to COVID-19, unfortunately.

Agreed, I would not expect any new routes to be launched due to this outbreak.

The suspension of travel between Europe and the US just announced will impact the FRA-JFK sectors so this could reinforce the case for a second daily nonstop to EWR or perhaps to JFK using the FRA-JFK slots?

This may not be the case or if it SQ will make a 2nd daily non-stop as it all depends on whether there's enough pax direct from SIN-NYC and vv. The one-stop SQ service was via FRA and there's traffic between FRA to NYC and vv.
