The advance seat reservation benefit for companions worked pretty well before SQ introduced Forward Zone and Preferred Seats. IMHO they now just fixed a "bug" which they didn't really thought thoroughly.

Agree. This stopped becoming a real benefit when SQ allowed anyone regardless of status to choose their seats upon purchase so long as they were willing to pay.

And of course this new "benefit" applies only to Y seating which if you are PPS you are very unlikely to be flying in!

Very much agreed! They didn’t think through the corner cases this brought. I recently found quite a disappointing one. Booked Y SilkAir for 3 pax including myself. Was able to select forward zone for all pax. I had to be pulled out of the reservation as I had to fly on a different flight. Upon checking in on the way back check in staff asked for the other 2 pax to pay for the ‘special’ seat.

All sorted after explaining but quite disappointing and frankly leaves a very cheap impression

Copy-pasting from an e-mail received today:

As part of our ongoing review of the KrisFlyer programme, we will be introducing a series of enhancements to improve your redemption experience. Revisions will also be made to selected aspects of the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award and Upgrade charts.
Enhanced PPS Club Rewards for Solitaire PPS Club members
From today, you will receive one Advance Upgrade instead of two Standby Upgrades when you accumulate more than 60,000 PPS Value.
This means that you will be able to confirm a one-cabin class upgrade at the point of booking, giving you certainty for upgrades for your travels with us.
As there is no cap on the number of PPS Rewards you can receive in a membership year, the more you fly, the more you will earn. You will continue to receive PPS Rewards at corresponding milestones in the table below when you accumulate PPS Value beyond 100,000. For example, if you have earned 140,000 in PPS Value during your membership year, you will earn two additional Double KrisFlyer Miles Rewards and one additional 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount on top of what you would have earned up to the 100,000 PPS Value milestone.
PPS Value earned during current membership year New PPS Reward
30,000 Double KrisFlyer Miles Rewards (2x)
40,000 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount
            60,000 One Advance Upgrade
            75,000 One Advance Upgrade
            100,000 One Advance Upgrade
            > Find out more about PPS Rewards here.
            More upgrade options
As part of our commitment to bring you more redemption options, upgrades from Economy Class to Business Class for flights with a Premium Economy Class cabin are available with immediate effect. The number of miles required for an Economy to Business Class Upgrade will be the same for aircraft with or without a Premium Economy cabin.

            Greater convenience on redemption availability
From 31 January 2019, you will be able to view available redemption options across a seven-day window. Simply check the Flexible travel dates box during your redemption search to get an overview of the redemption availability and respective lowest redemption award levels, for flights three days before and after your selected date.
This will enable you to see relevant available redemption inventory at a glance and select alternative dates of travel more conveniently.
            Certainty for waitlisted redemptions
To give you greater certainty for your waitlisted flight redemptions, you will be informed of the outcome of your waitlist 14 days before the flight.
At least two weeks prior to the flight, all successful waitlist redemptions will be confirmed, and unsuccessful ones cancelled.
This change is aimed at removing the uncertainty of being on a redemption waitlist, and to give more time to make alternative travel plans should your waitlist not be successful. It will come into effect in the second quarter of 2019.
Waitlists for redemption upgrades will continue to be available up to the point of departure.
Discounted redemptions for last minute travel
Due to popular demand, KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes will be made a permanent programme feature from February 2019. It offers significant discounts off regular redemption rates each month to selected destinations across the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir network, for travel the following month.
To commemorate the official launch of KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes, the February edition will offer never-before redemption deals to destinations in our network. Details will be made available on singaporeair.com/kfescapes on 15 February 2019.
Revisions to Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award and Upgrade Charts
We have also reviewed our Award and Upgrade levels and will be making the following revisions:
Adjustments will be made to Award and Upgrade levels in First Class, Business Class and Premium Economy Class
Existing Economy Class Saver Award and Advantage Award levels, as well as Economy Class to Premium Economy Class upgrades, will remain unchanged
The revised Award and Upgrade charts apply to redemption and redemption upgrade bookings ticketed on or after 24 January 2019.

Got the same one today too. Curious how many people spend 140k+ each year on SIA?

Probably not many but quite a few.
I thought the mid tier benefits offers and milestones don’t realy make sense.

                60k = upgrade
                Spend 15k more = upgrade
Spend 25k (why?) more = another upgrade
Spend 30k more = merely 2 double miles vouchers
                And so on.

It makes more sense in my opinion, to just give an additional upgrade every 15k after 60k threshold. Simple and reasonable.

You'd be surprised. We were aware of one guy who recently earned circa 840,000-ish PPSV.

This is what happens when they can't make their mind up and decide what they want to do, hence why this went backwards and forwards for so long.

I'd happily swap the two stand-by upgrade I got a 60K PPSV for one confirmed one. As discussed I can't see me being able to use the stand-by ones, although I know someone on here who did, in Suites to LHR just before Christmas.
