  • Singapore Airlines To Operate Four Daily Flights Between Singapore And Manila

    17 June 2009

Singapore Airlines will add a fourth daily flight between Singapore and Manila from 10 July.
The increase from three to four daily flights, operated by the Boeing 777 family of aircraft, will expand capacity between Singapore and Manila, by more than 20%. This has been made possible as a result of recent bilateral air services consultations between Singapore and the Philippines.

SQ916 will depart Singapore at 1410hrs and arrive in Manila at 1745hrs. The return flight SQ921 will depart Manila at 1850hrs and arrive in Singapore at 2220hrs. To give customers more flight options to suit their travel needs and to reduce transit times for onward departures from Singapore Changi Airport, Singapore Airlines will retime one of its present Manila services. SQ912 will be retimed to depart Singapore at 1210hrs and arrive in Manila at 1545hrs, while the return flight, SQ919 will leave Manila at 1650hrs and arrive in Singapore at 2020hrs.

“The frequency increase on this route underscores the strong and growing economic, business and tourism links between Singapore and the Philippines. It also improves the connectivity of Manila to the rest of the world. The scheduling of the four services to depart and arrive at various times during the day between the two cities, gives our customers more options to choose a flight which better suits their travel needs,” said Singapore Airlines Executive Vice President Marketing and the Regions, Mr Huang Cheng Eng.

I note that the capacity increase of "more than 20%" suggests that the 777-300 flight will be downgauged to a derated 777-200ER. That helps to free up the 777-300s to replace the 777-300ERs which are replacing the JumboJets.

Ticketing website showing SQ910 and SQ917 is still by B777-300, while the others are by either B777-200 or B777-200ER.

I like the increased frequency and the re-timing -- certainly gives a bit more flexibility for me when I head to MNL.

I have a sneaking suspicion the wonky multi-city/stopover booking engine will end up giving me irritating flight combinations.
