  • Spring Season/Break/Holiday Travel Plans?

As a student in university, there will be a one week Spring "Break" during the semester and I'm taking this opportunity to travel. For most SQTalkers, years at university are already over so I opened the thread to any travel plans anyone might be having during the next season in a couple of months.

I'll be flying GFK-MSP-AMS-CAI roundtrip. I booked with KLM but unfortunately KL does not fly to MSP, so I am stuck with DL's birds for the long haul

What I am looking forward to:
Flying with KL for the very first time.
Flying to AMS for the very first time. (I heard AMS is a very nice airport)

What I am not looking forward to:
    Flying in Y...

There will be a 9 hr 55 mn layover in AMS on the outbound trip. For those familiar with AMS or have been there, any advice and/or recommendation for me during my transit? I'm flying in Y, so forget about the lounges...
Such a gentle way about you / All around the world / Wouldn't go away without you / Singapore Girl, you're a great way to fly

Definitely go into town and look around! The train takes about 15 mins and there's one about every 15 mins. jjpb3 has a TR:

You can go and try some Indonesian food maybe!

Well, this year during the time frame that used to correspond with our Spring Break back in the day *ahem* (the period at the end of March, that is), we'll be in beautiful Ubud, Bali, before rushing back to Brasil!
Le jour de Saint Eugène, en traversant la Calle Mayor...

I should have clarified myself earlier by stating that I have been to AMS (the city) but not the airport, Schiphol. I've done some research and discovered that AMS has a library and museum among other things. Should be interesting and I have to say I am looking forward to discovering it.

Having been to the city of AMS itself a couple years ago, I think I can skip seeing the town especially since I don't have a Schengen visa at the moment. Thanks for your advice though!

No Spring Break, but it's the Labour Day long weekend for us down here when you're on Spring Break. OH and I have booked a quick jaunt to party in Seminyak, Bali on a Jetstar StarClass promo: MEL-SYD-DPS-MEL. First time flying JQ long haul... the Starclass 'food' don't look too enticing. We'll be sure to prepare ourselves well in the Flounge with sufficient quantities of food and bubbly.

Not if you travel all the time for work it's not. I'd rather relax at home doing nothing than fly long haul in Y, but I can understand those who don't fly much for their job thinking differently.

Schiphol is a great airport, undoubtedly one of the best in Europe. But there is no airport on the planet worth spending 10 hours in if you don't have to. If you can get a visa I would do so and go into the City. I have been to Amsterdam many times but still find the city fascinating.

I believe Mercure operates an airside transit hotel (not quite sure if anything has changed). However I do recommend getting a Schengen Visa and enjoying Amsterdam, especially if your transit's during the daytime. Amsterdam's an especially great place to be doing nothing, just sit back and watch the city walking past you.
