  • BKK - Very odd tranfer policy

Am in the Thai lounge after a bizarre event.

For the first time in forever I turned up to BKK without an onward boarding pass, for a flight to BUS. Hunting and following the signs after arriving from Singapore to look for a Transfer Desk, there weren't any at the end of the signs. A quick question to the Information Desk revealed I had to pass through Security, go upstairs to the Departure level and go to the desk there.

Sorry, what? Pass through security without a Boarding Pass and go upstairs? Yes, they let me through and I got Airside in Departures without a Pass.

I know a couple of months ago when I came through it wasn't like this because I know I saw the desk just before heading upstairs to Security at the other end.....or is there a different policy between East and West halls because for the first time I came through the East end.

Last Aug on a transfer flight from Singapore to Taipei via bangkok in J, had the same thing. Was told to go through security w/o onwards BP. Although I had to show a printed itinerary from TG stating I have an onwards flight.

Last Dec same thing for Singapore to Osaka via Bangkok in F. However there wasn't much of an issue here as a TG ground staff escorted me through.

Somehow at Singapore they're only able to check me in for all connecting flights but not issue BP.

Had the same thing SIN-BKK-HKG two weekends ago, they asked for an itinerary which I brought up on my iPhone, then they let me through.

Obviously a lack of security because anyone could muster up an expired/fake itinerary (not show any with latest changes etc). But I guess they figure you can't fly because you'll be asked at any boarding gate for your BP before they allow you through. Theoretically.

They only asked me where I was going and I didn't show anything.

        Utterly crazy.

I've seen a number of airports which have segregated arrivals and departures, where the transfer desks are after transfer security (at least in some terminals). Places like LHR, ICN and NRT come to mind. You just have to show an itinerary to get through, as you experienced in BKK.
