I would have accept the delay if the pilot provided that explaination. Sometimes harsh measures need to be done to ensure standards are complied. Sun Tzu also had to kill two concubines, who refuse to take his orders, to get his point across.

I'm pretty sure there are better ways to handle such things though.

Flight delay affecting passengers is only just one matter. Squeezing out another departure slot in a busy airport and affecting other flight departures due to that are also other factors that need to be taken into account too.

By the way, I thought the FA shouldn't be serving macadamia nuts (especially when served on a plate) when the plane is about to take off. Wouldn't that pose a hazard? Ok, maybe is only for first and business class passengers.

She was being a PITA DYKWIA. She could just've as easily told him to stand down and let someone else take over for that duration and taken disciplinary action during/after the flight away from public scrutiny. Anyway, she's still untouchable and she knows it.

I think this qualifies for a dickhead award all of it's own. Shame they didn't lock her up and ban her from flying. People who think the safety of a flight is in danger just because they are served peanuts in a packet are clearly unstable and not fit to fly themselves.

Quite true that she shd have considered other alternatives. After all, she has a stake in their airlines and ahe shd have taken a wider perspective and weighed all consequences (including airline reputation). Surely there were other stewards who could have assumed the leadership role (if not, what if the chief steward falls ill halfway thru the flight? )

This incident led me to notice that Korean Air is actually a family-owned business, though it's still regarded as Korea's flag carrier. Apparently many conglomerates in the country are family-owned. With no public shareholders to hold them accountable for all things big and small, these owners can pretty much do what they want, whenever they feel like it.

Apparently KE's original response was an attempt to defend her, which they have now sensibly back tracked on. Talk about learn when to stop digging.
