Hi all! I am not a member from that other site (care to share which one it is?),but am new here.I was from Surabaya, and living thare for since I am born, 29 years ago.

I am not usually flying in First, even though I have that handle, so please don't misunderstand hehehe! SUB only now has MI service and no F anyway.

I still like SQ much, but not much chance to fly them due to this incident where they changed the service to Silkair

Hope to have fun here! Thanks

    Iskandar

To fly well, is to fly First!

      i don't like it.
Too traffic, too cahotic, too pollution.
There's not so much to see (it's not Rome, Florence or Venice), it's mainly a business city.
Good place for shopping (via Montenapoleone and so on).... but S'pore is cheaper

Just got invited to come over here. It's great to have a board just for SQ.
So much to catch up on on this board. Luckily it's the long weekend and I can take some time to do so.
My handle is the same as on the other site: YVRCNX

About 5-7 years ago I used to do 3 - 4 RTW trips a year mostly using SQ always in F or Raffles. In those days I didn't know anything about PPS, how much I regret that now, just found out about it since I joined FT.
Now starting all over again with SQ, shoud be PPS by October.
I got my 5 year old son all hooked an SQ already. That should say a lot about me - and my son.
            It's great to be here.

3-4 RTW trips a year and you didn't collect the PPS sectors Did you even collect the miles
(Having said that, there was someone at the last London SQ meetup a few months ago who flies, I believe, F longhaul every month and he didn't know about double dipping until he was told at the meetup!)

Yes, I did get all the miles on my AC account and was a Super Elite for quite a few years.
Somehow in those days I had just not heard about PPS and double dipping. I could be PPS Solitaire by now.
When I first found out on FT about PPS I really regretted not having done it.
I had my first experience in SQ F on a LHR to SIN flight. What a great experience. I still remember it as if it was just yesterday eventhought it has now been about 7 years.

Somekind of holiday in the rest of of the country too?
Sorry for my ignorance. I don't usually keep track of holidays as I end up working anyway.

Yes, it is holiday in all the provinces except Quebec. Quebec has St. Jean de Baptise.
I have been very busy with work. Taking this long holiday to catch up on the boards.

Welcome to this forum. Glad to know that you will be QPP by Oct. I am sure SQ Canada will be pleased to have you as one of QPPs. Last time I stopped by at the office, the staff was asking me to recruit more QPPs based in Canada. The flights seem full all the time, but just not enough QPPs around.

About 5-7 years ago I used to do 3 - 4 RTW trips a year mostly using SQ always in F or Raffles. In those days I didn't know anything about PPS, how much I regret that now, just found out about it since I joined FT.

Right now my son is just enrolled in AC Aeroplan. My wife and him are in Japan right now but they used AC so they could go nonstop. Sadly we only have 3 flights a week from YVR to SIN via ICN on SQ and during the summer season it is almost impossible to get any seats on those flights.

StarG; my son too likes CX. We live close to YVR and I take him at least once a week to watch airplanes, usualy on a day when SQ comes in and he can watch it land. He has seen Cathay Pacific quite often now and has asked me to bring a model plane with me of CX from one of my trips.
When they arrived in Japan and I talked to him he told me;"Daddy,we landed in Japan and I saw Cathay Pacific, did you get the Cathay Pacific airplane for me?"

I am planning to take him with me when he is a little older and I will definetly enroll him in KF young explorer.

In fact, I was told that recently the office got many calls regarding double dipping. Those callers told them why SQ doesn't advertise that, and they had missed the PPS qualification. And thanks to you, most were AC FFP members as they claimed on the phone.

Thank you all for your warm welcome!

I would like to join the fun on the A380 inaugural flight of course! I will take anything available, F, J, or Y.

Maybe we can all swap seats at some point during the flight so we can get the full experience!

Let's make it a party flight!

I hope they will not give the whole flight away to the SIA VVIP guests. The inaugural 480 seats will be gone in no time.

Well the whole thing is kept secret. I guess we will not know anything until maybe November.

I would say the inaugural will take place some time later in December.
Two of the SQ Big Busses are already -test- flying in Toulouse.
The route proving flights to Singapore are scheduled to start in September.
They will start with Airbus people as mock passengers. I wonder if they will be taking Noel Forgeard for a free ride now that he lost his job poor unemployed fellow...
The SIA employees will go next.
There will also be some chosen VVIP guests on these flights, invited by both Airbus and SIA. An ex Concorde chief pilot friend of mine is already booked up.
Me want to be a mock passenger too. But me is no VVIP of any sort...

I don't think the inaugural flight will be filled with mock pax. Perhaps when they deliver the bird from Europe to SIN, there are the mock crowds. But like A345 ultra longhaul inaugural, there will be mostly paid pax with few invited guests and journalists.
Unless SQ management decides to do the charity option, and bidding is in order, which means I will not be there.

Got an invite here from Savage25. Same handle as the other place.
Next flight out will be end of year, hopefully and again hopefully on the Golden Bird.
                      Dang, kinda miss flying now.

I guess I'll be 15K short of Elite Gold again this year, as a student I don't have the time for mileage runs, I just try to travel a lot during my breaks but unfortunately as calculated will be ending up flying only 35,000 miles this year.

But when is your elite status period? I know KF/PPS do not use Jan 1 - Dec 31 cut off period. May be X-mas break/New Year will still be in your qualifying period?

Cut off period for me is 30th April 2007.
                      My flights till then are:

                      SIN-icn-SFO 8519 miles
                      SFO-hkg-SIN 8509 miles
                      SIN-nrt-HNL 5001 miles (70% NH)

SQ said that I would only earn 16880 miles for the SIN-SFO round-trip, any idea why it's not 17028 which is the actual flown miles?

                      Current Elite Miles: 9997
                      So based on SQ's calculation 9997+16880+5001= 31878

18122 Miles short of Elite Gold. Now if I were to add in a HNL-LHR-HNL run on UA and fly by UA instead of NH for my SIN-HNL flight, I'll just get pass 50K

CGK you're putting ideas in my head

Per SQ booklet, SFO-SIN (as one flight number) earns 8,440 miles. It's calculated from the shortest distance between SFO and SIN.
If you takes two different segments like SFO-HKG-SIN, you will get 6,915 SFO-HKG and 1,594 HKG-SIN, for total 8,509 (for example you take SQ 1 SFO-HKG and connect to SQ 857 HKG-SIN).

yeah I guess that's how the addiction to SQ begins and you just need more and more SQ flights to fix that addiction.... from Y to J to F

I'm a SQ fan as well. Anyway, I'm not really a frequent flyer, just a student and fly once a year SIN-ADL-SIN for my study in ADL. Travel has been one of my dream for some times. Only experience is flying Y, and really envious of flying J one day.
Currently KF Basic member trying hard to earn krisflyer miles, just willing to accumulate a little points for some free flight.

I recommend using your KF miles to upgrade your Y flights to Raffles, rather than redeeming them for free flights. Better value for your miles, IMO.

Not to put down KF or anything, but if you only fly once a year - it might be worth giving an FFP with non-expiring mileage a shot? You can still fly SQ and get non-expiring miles on a few Star Alliance FFPs as long as you fly once every 3 years. But stick to KF if you want to use your miles for upgrades on SQ.

Erm.. Interesting. I didn't know that such FFPs exist. May I have more information about it?I definitely have to fly once a year. I know it's pretty hard for me to earn miles, but little will help. Probably it's hard for me to get upgrades, always willing to have the chance but probably harder considering I'm only flying once a year. Also, I realised that by the time I have enough points for one way free ticket ADL-SIN, some of my miles will expire.. unless I extend them for half a year and book for the flight pretty earlier (before the miles expire). I joint KF just want to save some money to redeem some free flights going back home.

One question, if I earned miles on other star alliance account, said UA Mileage Plus. In the end can I combine my KF miles and UA miles together to redeem for flights? How does this work if I were to have different Staralliance Frequent flyer account? Do I earn the same amount of miles if the miles are credited to either of the account?
                          Thanks in advance.

To answer your question, no, you cannot combine KF and UA miles, or for that matter KF and any other program miles. The other thing to note, is that you also end up earning different miles for the same sector depending on where you credit them. Don't be discouraged though - there are ways and means to pad your mileage account

                            Hi Shortfinals,

Thanks for your reply. Anyway, won't feel discourage.. Thanks for informing about getting different miles if credited on different FFP on the same sector. Didn't even realise this before..
Ya, I know that SQ has lots of other partners such as credit cards, hotels etc to earn krisflyer miles. As I'm not eligible for any credit cards the only place to earn my mile is Krishop and the miles from flying..
Early this year, they have the earn double miles when flying SIN-ADL on either Monday or Friday flight.. But unfortunately, this promotion was held just after I flied. grr.. Else should have enough point by now..

I see that someone got hold of the cheap ex-CDG LH ticket. If you're doing the SQ shuttle on SIN-KUL on a seperate ticket, the difference between Y and F isn't that much and you get to experience the SKL F.

                            hi all,
madame concorde was so kind enough to invite me on this forum i m also a member of flyertalk but i prefer to read the comments of this forum coz is only about SQ!!!
i am based in CDG and sia takes me 4 to 5 times a year to SEA, however in Y class yep yep, hopefully in the very near future i will start to fly J but i'm paying everything out of my own pocket. hopefully business will keep on increasing for me so flying becomes less stressfull and hassle free.
apart from that, i normally do 2 to 3 transantlantic flight and a handfull flights inside europe.

                            that's all folks!!!

Same handle as in The Other Forum. The other forum does seem quieter without all you regulars around.
I'm in SIN now. No upcoming flights to look forward to, but hopefully I would be lifting my grounded status in a few months time!

                              Hi all,

I am the "baby" of SQTalk by virtue of being the newest to sign up. Thanks to Keith Tan for the invitation . . . but I am probably the most archaic in vintage.

I have been a fan of SQ for the longest time ever and love this airline to bits . . . but there are many other airlines I have enjoyed flying on.

My other favourite airline is Air Mandalay - a little more than two years of my life were spent marketing it in 1995 to 1997.

Aviation photography is my full-time hobby but I do also enjoy everything else associated with aviation - especially collecting airline-issued postcards and memorabilia. Ironically, although I love the DC-10 most, I have never flown on SIA's DC-10s!!

I am looking forward to the arrival of the B773ERs and hopefully the A380s in a year's time.

I look forward to enjoying the more focussed discussions here.

                                Hazy greetings from Singapore!!

Many thanks for the warm welcome. I am quite sure that I will be having tonnes of fun here. It is after all a more focussed group discussing the one airline we all (for one reason or another) care about.

I had a great time taking all those pictures at SIA's launch of the next generation cabin product. The only difficulty is fighting for space with the international media present . . . one certainly does not want to be elbowing some of the biggest names in the media industry present at the launch.

At some point, I look forward to meeting some of you at an SIA event. As many of you are also closely associated with the airline, this is definitely possible.
