Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge closure due to upgrading works

    by Malaysia Airlines on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 9:50am ;

We are pleased to inform our valued guests that the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge located at the Satellite building, Kuala Lumpur International Airport will be upgraded. The renovation work will take place over 6 weeks from 9 May to 18 June 2012. During this period, we have made the following alternative lounge arrangements for you.

Enrich Platinum Members & First Class guests may use the following lounges:
    • Regional Lounge at the main terminal building, located close to the aero train, or
    • China Airlines Lounge, Mezzanine floor, Satellite Building (close to Gates 31-37), or
    • Malaysia Airports CIP lounges at the Mezzanine floor, Satellite Building (close to Gates 31-37).

Enrich Gold members & Business Class guests may use the following lounges:
    • China Airlines Lounge, Mezzanine floor, Satellite Building (close to Gates 31-37), or
    • Malaysia Airports CIP lounges, Mezzanine floor, Satellite Building (close to Gates 31-37).

As this is an interim arrangement, some facilities such as the shower and Muslim prayer room (surau) are not available at the China Airlines and Malaysia Airports CIP lounges during this time. For our Muslim guests, the closest public surau is located just across both these lounges.

For transit guests who wish to use the shower facilities, you may do so at the Regional Lounge located at the main terminal building, situated close to the aero train. As the shower facility is the only alternative available during this time, we seek your kind understanding should the waiting time is longer than usual.

Do allow for extra time to reach the boarding gates. If you have any queries, please call the Malaysia Airlines 24-hour Call Centre at 1 300 88 3000 (for calls within Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (outside Malaysia). You can send your feedback related to this temporary arrangement to customer@malaysiaairlines.com
This can be annoying for JCL pax as the wonderful "Rimbun" Regional lounge seems to be out of bounds..

Isn't the Rimbun a JCL lounge as well? Was using it during my last MH run from KUL into SIN 1.5 years back

From what I understand, throughout the renovation, JCL pax will be directed to the lounges mentioned above. The Rimbun will only be open to F and Enrich platinum pax.

The wording looks like that: Rimbun out of bounds for J/MH G - but the alternative lounges mentioned above are in the satellite terminal. If i've got a G/H gate departure it'll be a huge pain.

Not to mention, I can count the number of flights with F using my fingers

In preparation for their entry into OW perhaps.

Interesting to see how it'll fare against the SKLs down south when it's ready.

J lounge capacity up to 320 from 230,
              F lounge down to 50 from 90.

And improved VVIP check-in and immigration for F.

Yes, the J side is very crowded at night, and yes, the F side is usually very quiet. I've been in there many times as the only pax. Might not be too bad an idea.

Only thing is i have no idea what OW emerald numbers are like passing through KUL though.

Can't be that hard to give the SKLs a run for their money

This is long overdue, as the JCL side of the lounge in the satellite is deperately in need of a refresh. Should be done in time for the A380 inaugural if the schedule is met. A large version of the Rimbun lounge would be great as I do like that place.

I don't quite get the options they are offering while it's shut. For a start saying that Enrich Gold and JCL pax can't use the Rimbun Lounge in the main terminal is bizarre. They should allow them to use it while the other lounge is shut and I have used it numerous times while either Gold or in JCL. In addition to this, while they are saying those pax cannot use it, it would seem they can if they want a shower. What are they intending doing, hanging around outside the showers and escorting them out of the lounge when they are finished?!.
