SQ has the best PEY catering? Are they out of their minds? It's just Y catering, plus a tablecloth and one additional main course choice.
A scan through the awards left me scratching my head. Lots of unexpected winners and rankings.
One thing I think they got right was best PEY: Qantas. I haven't flown Qantas PEY in a while, but it was almost business-lite when I flew them several years back. And QR's J is undoubtedly impressive (At least on the A350).

Yeah, these awards are always bizarre. The processes may well be transparent and independent but at the end of the day it's a collection of opinions and I think they are about as factual and authentic as the Oscars. The number of people who actually fly on each airline seems to warrant more normalisation too.
TG and GA have better Y product than SQ? TG and GA have better cabin crew than SQ? Aeroflot is ranked 30 in the world and SAS Scandinavian is 65???
My one vote for something they got right: VA made the Top 20 for cabin crew at no. 18, QF didn't make the list.

TG definitely have better catering than SQ in Economy, though service can be a hit or miss. As for GA, my past 2 experiences with them have been very good in Economy as well, and GA crew (if my 2 flights are their normal standards) are definitely as good as the better SQ cabin crew.
If we consider the definition of "best" as relative to quality/price ratio, it is not surprising SQ dropped to nr 2.
Offering tickets which are way more expensive than the competition while cutting down on service, and nothing substantially more when it comes to the seats themselves, does push customers away. The "name" and the "hot air" around it do not justify asking 400 to 2000$ more than your other 5* or 4* competitors for a simple Economy flight to Europe, for instance.
Hopefully, they will realise it and find a way to regain the top position, caring properly for the passengers.
Sadly though, insiders at the Airline House say that they will increase focus on the premium cabins, and lower the standards in Economy. Good luck!
Nice to see our old favourite Skytrax (Skyca$h ) again!
I have learned to take them with a grain of salt. The following statement from the article is pure gold.
Referred to as the “Oscars of the aviation industry”, the World Airline Awards are held in high esteem for clarity of process and independence, with no outside sponsorship or external influence.

This is very true. The cost cutting is just unbearable. As I was saying in another thread, it doesn't make sense to take menus away for a premium airline - when QR (#1) and EK (#4) are continuing with what is originally SQ's practice.

The enigmatic Skytrax awards... Nobody used to take it quite this seriously but I think in the last few years they are turning a few heads. Even the Straits Times reported this #2 ranking

If the recent rounds of service cuts in Y are anything to go by, I would subjectively say yes, TG (seat comfort/amenities/meals) and GA (seat comfort/amenities/meals/crew) are slightly ahead of SQ.
I will still fly SQ due to excellent connectivity out of SIN, and if the cost of the ticket is not coming out of my pocket. I have also become a slave to some *Gold benefits.
Other than that, there aren't too many positive reasons to fly SQ anymore - and I know for sure, SQ doesn't care about people like me who only fly Y class with them.

They don't care about people flying in C either. They know that most of us are not paying the tickets out of our own pocket. So why care?
While the legitimacy of these rankings are questionable in general, I do agree that Qatar J deserves its number one position. Each of the four segments I recently flew with them were outstanding in every aspect.

I don't remember the source now, but I read a trip report recently in QR J over 4 segments that suggested otherwise. IIRC dessert was outstanding but everything else was sub-par and not to be expected in Business Class.
