  • Is there any way of finding out why flight is delayed?

I saw this just a moment ago:

    03rd June 2008 - Tuesday - Flight Number SQ26 / Aircraft (B747-400)

Airport Scheduled Time Actual Time Estimated Time Status
    Departure From Singapore (SIN)
    Terminal 3 23:50
    Arrival In Frankfurt (FRA) 06:30 (+1) 07:04 (+1) Delayed
Departure From Frankfurt (FRA) 08:30 (+1)
Arrival In New York (JFK) 10:45 (+1)

Is there usually anyway to know why each SQ flight is delayed (like UA)? Hope this is not a silly question

Normally the system does give a reason but since it doesn't and the delay is more than an hour, I usually suspect Aircraft Defects.

i havent found any way to tell from the web... best way is to be on the flight and ask! eg i know the A380 from LHR to SIN was delayed for more than an hour last week because the ground staff couldn't deteach one of the airbridges, then it missed its slot for takeoff... but that sort of info you only get from been onboard!

I don't think I want to be on a delayed flight! Anyway, more bad news for SQ26 - a further delay at FRA

        Departure From Singapore (SIN)
        Terminal 3 23:50
        Arrival In Frankfurt (FRA) 06:30 (+1) 06:59 (+1) Arrived
        Departure From Frankfurt (FRA) 08:30 (+1) 12:19 (+1) Departed
Arrival In New York (JFK) 10:45 (+1) 13:55 (+1) Delayed

The delay in Frankfurt was due to an unfortunate aircraft defect.

Any idea what defect that was? And the registration of the plane? It must not be serious enough as the flight was not canceled!

This, I believe, is the real reason behind the delay of SQ26 today. Traffic Management Program in place at JFK due to low clouds.

You can find out through Amadeus the reasons for delays.

I still think it was Aircraft Defects even though Air Traffic Services Clearance may also be a factor.

                  It was 9V-SPM.
