Would love not to transit PEK, but it does seem that I might have to. Thanks for the input. Will remember to allocate plenty of time.

So if I have to go through passport control, i might as well go landside to check in for the SQ flight. Will that be an issue?

No issue and depending how fast you walk, might be less hassle
