Some good points here, and I am strangely drawn to compare further with EK's A345 F product. Unlike SQ, EK do curbside meet and greet plus escort at SIN for F pax, plus inclusive transfers at most airports.

In the lounge department EK are about as disappointing as SQ.

Food on EK in F is on a par with SQ R except for SQ's BTC concept. On the wine front, EK is quite similar quality to SQ, but EK have reintroduced dessert wine recently! Hurray!

Both suites have a personal closet, but it's not something I can get at all excited about. The SIN buggy service similarly is not something to get animated about, until the lounge staff offer it and then forget about it!

As I see it, if I am to compare EK's A345 suite with SQ's, I prefer SQ's package overall because of the better, more consistent service, more space, a more comfy sleep, and a decent companion seat. Whether it's worth the price difference though...

    Cheers, Howard

However, I wonder how things will look once SQ has fully retired the 744. Then we will have the choice between 380 and 77W (and maybe by then 787s/350s which presumably would be configured with the same J and F as 77W). So when you want an F fare, you cannot go through London anymore because all flights will be 380. You cannot go to LA either. No more F for those destinations, only R....
It does not make sense to me. Suddenly you will have F passengers asking themselves "How can I go SIN-LAX in F?" Suddenly, CX becomes very attractive...
Interesting observation. Yes, CX will start to look more interesting at least for me. I have been thinking whether it is still worth it once we have all 380 and 77W. There is also the issue of not being able to obtain F or C Saver tickets on these hardwares. ..Food for thought.

SQ do curbside meet and greet for First Class passengers at SIN. Just have your driver take you to the First Class terminal at T3. It's the last turn to the left as you reach the terminal.

Well I have done that, but no-one ever met me curbside. It's certainly a nice enough serene check in lounge.

Interesting. They always meet me curbside. I notice because I find it a bit over-the-top.

Come to think of it, I had no baggage. Perhaps I didn't notice it because of that. Normally I do notice that kind of thing.

Not just with EK or LH for ground services comparing,
even TG has a better ground services for their F pax than SQ on their home base. At BKK, full escort through check in, imigration and security (through diplomatic line ), and buggy ride to Royal F Lounge (not even mention their superb Royal Spa)
When arrive as F pax, meet at gate and escort through Imigration (again, diplomatic line) and luggage picking
Compare with this, SQ not have a par.
Inflight product, maybe SQ is far more superior (and I love them so much ), but on ground service?? hmmmm...
                Just my 2 cents opinion.....

I always notice when someone tries to take my briefcase from me.

Given the immigration queueing nightmare at BKK, this is a needed service there. At SIN, it would make far less difference.

I agree.. and honestly IMO, "Suites" class is very er, "china-bukit" as what I would term "managerial Ah-Beng" mentality at SQ headquarters.

Its SQ trying to make a special terminology for something that really isn't that grand. Yes, I agree it's something a little different, but for the extra moolah, SQ could have made it extra special by offering limo transfers in Singapore (I mean how much will it cost even if someone lives in Jurong), how about an onboard chef, better wines (ala Concorde), better meals (see:Chef), better amenities and PJs, and maybe an extra crew or two to assist. Note that there are only 3 cabin attendants serving the entire R cabin.

EK would triumph at their A380 First products and they wouldn't charge more. But for the time being when its still a novelty, SQ feels that they better charge the extra before someone else who flies the A380 advertises..." and we won't charge you extra in our First Class cabin"

Well I have to disagree on the whole part of EK not charging more. I've read in many articles already that they plan on charging 18,000 USD for flights to JFK for example in F.

                        For Emirates, it's not F, it's called P now

I agree with Guy Betsy. In a year or two it's going to become banal and other airlines will buy advertisements that try to ridicule SQ for using "First Class" to indicate their second class (after Suites) product.

It all depends on whether many other carriers begin adopting suite-like mini-cabins are the de-facto standard for longhaul First Class.

If that happens, then I imagine this whole "class beyond First" crap will slowly disappear from SQ marketing.

And what would that leave First Class on the 77W - a class beneath suites?
