  • New CX J Lounge in HKG: The Bridge

I was in this place earlier this week. It's at the top end of the terminal in the middle of the 'fork'.

Nice place. You go down the escalator then can go right or left. One side has a 'Coffee Room' (or something like that) and there is also a 'Bakery' and a 'TV Room'. Decent view of the tarmac from various positions, although the view would have been much better if it has been a couple of floors higher up than where it is.

This is currently my fave CX J lounge in HKG. The decor is the most chic and interesting, and I love the relaxed and cozy ambience as the place is set up to resemble mini living rooms. I can't remember the fizz served in the Bridge now but it's significantly better than the Piper Heidsieck in the Cabin and Wing.

I will put up some pics once I work out how to embed them from my Facebook account (didn't work when I tried it in another forum that uses V-Bulletin).

Was definitely Piper when we were there in the J section. Or are you referring to the F section?

We'd have preferred Clicquot to Piper but the one in the Bridge was definitely a superior drop to either..

edited to add: The champagne in the Bridge is the Gonet-Medeville premier cru Blanc de noir (thank you Twitter). Very yummy drop!

Ah yes, that's where we differ - Wing F it was, indeed at the champagne section.

Will pop into the Bridge in sub-three weeks and compare the bubbly. From a quick Google, the Gonet hasn't come up on my radar previously, so can't yet comment... as for it being better than the Veuve, that's possibly subjective...

Champagne is indeed highly personal and subjective. If you have a strong preference for blanc de blanc champagnes for instance chances are you won't like it as this is a blanc de noir (I love both, strangely enough I've found the difference and impact of type of grape on the final product seems more pronounced in blends). Piper and Clicquot are blends. Just mentally insert an imaginary 'IMO' qualifier next to wherever champagne, food etc is mentioned.

New CX J Lounge in HKG: The Bridge

Mods: Thanks for merging the threads!

My interest in this new lounge had been piqued since MAN Flyer visited in December last year. Finally got the opportunity to visit recently...

Earlier this week, I had just checked in at HKIA for my flight CX715 HKG-SIN, and completed immigration and security formalities.

Entering the airside area, I noticed the entrance to the CX "The Wing" F lounge just a left turn and a few steps away. A very tempting prospect, especially for the selection of champagne and the private cabanas.

However CX's "The Bridge" J lounge had also recently opened, which I had never been to. Decisions...decisions...

I had already posted a TR for CX "The Wing" F, so the choice was clear......I would head to "The Bridge"!

Just a few hours prior, I was in the Futian district of Shenzhen in meetings. Knowing that I had an 8pm flight home to catch, my colleagues had thoughtfully arranged a car transfer for me from Shenzhen to HKIA, a 90 minute car trip, including time to clear immigration, and where immigration formalities between Shenzhen and Hong Kong SAR were done in the vehicle itself (not unlike the Singapore-JB causeway crossing) and I would not even need to step out of the vehicle.

It was a hazy day, but that made for a spectacular sunset as we drove from Shenzhen to Lantau Island, where HKIA is located.

After clearing immigration and security, I caught the airtrain that connects the check-in end of the terminal with the gates at the other end of the main spine of Terminal 1, and ended up at the entrance of the new CX J Lounge, "The Bridge", close to Gate 40.

The lounge makes very clever use of the empty space at the "Y junction" at the end of the main spine of the terminal. You descend an escalator into a large atrium serving as the reception to the lounge, then head either left or right to two similar, but distinct, lounge zones to the left and right of the main reception.

                          To the left, you had:

                          - The Bistro
                          - Showers
                          - IT Zone (i.e. work area)
                          - Coffee Loft

                          To the right, you had:

                          - The Long Bar
                          - Bakery
                          - TV Lounge

Both sides of the lounge had seating and dining areas.

I headed first to the left...

Seating was comfortable, and decor was exceedingly tasteful. I loved the overall look and design elements.

You also had wonderful tarmac views.

There was a smallish dining area with a reasonable, but not exceptionally wide, assortment of cold and hot dishes.

I remarked to one of the friendly staff that the lounge seemed remarkably empty for 6.30pm on a Friday evening, but she said that it had been really busy earlier in the day.

I liked the fact that the soft drink dispenser was integrated into the wall, and not a standalone dispenser like in a fast food joint.
