I do think it will encouragae the less sophisticated traveller to splurge, meaning several trips will get cancelled nearer the time as they realise it will be too pricey mid credit crunch for hotels etc, reducing availability later in 2009.
But good on BA for doing this - never could understand why this didn't happen after 9/11 - makes total sense to reduce your miles liabilities when premium cabins are flying around otherwise empty!
