Thumbs down *NEW* Star Alliance Award Chart (effective from 16 April 2019)

https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/s...ance-airlines/

Review by Mainly Miles:

https://mainlymiles.com/2019/03/23/s...from-16-april/

On average all zones increase 8 to 10%!! Asia Miles is a better option for their partner airlines. On Qatar Airways, World's Best Business Class, from SIN to Europe only 70,000 miles but S$440 taxes, compared to KrisFlyer 92,000 miles.

The goal post has shifted again!! Every year increase!! They think we print $$!!

The best is still EVA Air's FFP. Mileage requirement has NEVER changed for many years. 1 way Business class within Asia such as SIN to Japan only requires 25,000 miles!!! Can transfer miles from Citi PremierMiles Card. Europe only 75,000 miles, US only 80,000 miles!!

yeah but BR still imposes fuel charges....

also I am assuming you are based in SIN, the Europe flight normally may require over night in TPE and BR only have AMS, VIE, CDG, and LHR as destination in Europe. Also AMS is not daily.

Probably you might want to consider other aspects first other than the miles part:

1. Taking EVA Air from SG to Japan via TPE (and back) requires a long overnight stopover due to the flight timings. Most likely you have to find a hotel to stay for 2 separate nights in Taoyuan (for both directions).

2. Non-stop European flights from TPE on Taiwanese carriers tends to be longer than other non-Taiwanese carriers of the same route due to "certain reasons". So your overall flight time would increase quite significantly. Also some flights has a stopover at BKK, and since there's no EVA flight between SIIN and BKK, most likely the routing would be SIN-TPE-BKK-(Europe) for a pure EVA flights using that chart.

Are you saying Taiwanese carriers cannot fly over China? Was this the reason that in the past, all Europe bound flight from TPE is doing stop over in BKK?

Yes, the routes from TPE to Europe is very long and do not fly past China, either fly up to Korea or down to HKG. Last time in 2016 I flew on Hand-in-Hand Jet to Paris, the flight was 13.5hrs!!

See the flight route TPE to CDG:

Yes, fly through TPE/TSA to Japan need to stay overnight.

Wow, I didnít expect that. Almost a polar route from Asia to Europe. 23-25 March, they went up to the Arctic and came down from Tromso.

Anyway, back to the thread topic. I think I would rather pay more miles than pay surcharges and taxes to the tune of $400. itís just almost too easy to re-accumulate back the spent miles.
