• TPE-HAN on EVA MD90

Hello everyone! This is my first post and first trip review on SQTalk and I hope y'all will enjoy it.

I remembered feeling super eggcited for this flight. It was going to be a flight of two firsts for me. 😄 It would be my first time flying EVA and the first time that I was going to be onboard a MD90! Awesome stuff! 😄 Being a plane fanatic, I’ve always wanted to fly the MD90 due to its interesting engineering design with the twin engines located at the back of the plane rather than in the middle of the plane’s fuselage. Currently, only three airlines in the world operate the MD90 (Delta, EVA and UNI).

Anyway, after a satisfying time at EVA Air’s “The Star”, I went to gate C5R for boarding. Usually a gate with an alphabet signifies a remote stand and that a bus would ferry the passengers to the gate. That would be interesting too as the bus ride to the plane would allow me to see awesome (and close-up) views of other planes. 😄

During the bus ride to the aircraft, I noticed just how many B777-300ERs that EVA operates! And those GE-90 engines were gorgeous! I’d love to fly to North America with EVA some day. 😄

Soon enough, we arrived at the plane. The MD90 is pretty beautiful IMHO.

I was one of the first passengers to board the plane. I was greeted at the door with three friendly and smiley EVA Air stewardesses. 😄 I was even escorted to my seat! Talk about personalized service! Such little things really make a big difference to one’s flying experience and for my case, a fantastic first impression. 😄

I was seated at 5A, the first row of the economy class seats. Immediately, I noticed just how great these seats were — there was AMPLE legroom! Score!!! 😄😄😄

After settling into my seat, I began looking for a menu but I couldn’t find any. Maybe menus are not provided for short flights. Anyway, I found interesting magazines and the MD90 safety card. Here’s a photo of the MD90 safety card:

As there was still a bit of time before the flight, I quickly made my way to the lavatory to relieve myself and to also check out the amenities inside the lavatory. It turns out that the lavatory was actually quite well-stocked!

Take-off was fairly quick as there was not much traffic nearing the runway. And the take-off itself onboard the MD90 was quite an experience! Because the engines are located right at the back of the plane, I was able to feel the thrust of the engines but not really hear any of the engine sound.

Anyway, shortly after take-off, lunch was served! 😄

Today’s main course was “chicken in soy-sauce”. The main course was served with a fish appetizer, a bun and some fruits.

The chicken in soy-sauce was actually quite delicious! It was simple and tasty. Simply tasty! 😄

The fish appetizer, on the other hand, was rather mediocre. The fish was a bit chewy and the vegetables felt like an afterthought to the dish. The orange pieces did help to liven up the dish a tinny bit though.

The fruits were tasty and refreshing. Nice! 😊

Service throughout the flight was fantastic! Refills for drinks came readily and from my observation, requests were often (if not always) greeted with a smile. The stewardesses were all very friendly and seemed genuinely happy. There was a sense that they took pride in their work and that they were proud to work for EVA Air. 😊 There was also an overarching sense of hospitality onboard the MD90. 😄

Soon enough, the landing gear was deployed and we began our steady and speedy descent to Hanoi Noi Bai International Airport. The landing was smooth and the taxiing to the gate was really fast. We parked right next to a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-200ER — the plane that I was going to catch next for my flight home.

The overall experience for this flight was really enjoyable. It was a pity that the flight was so short. Never mind, this gives me a legitimate reason to fly with EVA again, possibly some time in the near future. HAHA! 😄 The food was tasty and the service was impressive. Nicely done, EVA! 😄

BTW, I don't know why the photos aren't showing up. Can someone advise me on how I can upload the photos properly? Thanks so much!

A nice first TR to SQTalk, Chrisflyer89!

To post pictures, you can click the small yellow image icon in the tool bar above the text input box, and that allows you to add the URL of pictures, or you can simply write "" before and after your pictures (without the """" of course).

That said, your pics look to be quite large sized, so if possible, do resize the pictures to smaller size.

Always great to read TR's about less common types like MD90's! Thanks for posting!

Hey yflyer! Thanks for the tip! I'll take note of that (and resize my photos) in my next trip report. Thanks also for your kind words. Haha. The MD90 is really an interesting plane. I'm glad you enjoyed reading the trip report!

TS, I had tried to copy your text and modify the images so that the posts can be viewed. I had to replace with this text eventually as the pictures were just too big. Oh well

          Love It

If GOD created me for only 1 reason. That reason would be to the love of my wife. If there was any other reasons involved, that would be for the love of Singapore Airlines
