Only sectors like NRT-LAX which have high demand (surprising, considering the competition) are much more expensive relative to SIN-NRT-LAX.
It's the same everywhere. Fares ex home base is always more expensive. Try flying EK from Dubai or QR from Doha.

From the home base, there is demand strength from business travellers and these passengers need fastest, flexibility, and high frequency. We are paying for staff to travel SQ to India paying $1,300-1400 even when competition is selling $500 or even less. Even when SQ is selling promo fares, the company still sends people on flexi fares.

I wouldn't say that SQ ignores local leisure demand though. In the past, may be. But these days, promos are frequent. Fares are competitive if booked at the right times, and far in advance. Even business fares to India is regularly selling at $2,200 to Delhi on the A380! That is just 5-10% more than Air India!

I am not complaining. I think SQ has done their best in the situation they are in.

Someone who listens and is able to initiate corrective action is not a fool.

The approval of the design and how it was presented might see a head roll internally - but that's a different story.

Yup its a very old picture of the 744 and surprise the papers dont have any recent archieve pictures of SIA. But anyway it doesnt really take much to realise that opting out is going to make people unhappy unless thats the intention to "misguide" passengers into buying insurance and at the same time it takes more admin work for SIA to refund those who have inadvertently bought and seek a refund for the insurance. Kind of concern as this CEO just a few days ago mentioned on the media that SIA will turn to digital tech to "reduce maintenance..." too amongst other things.

So right now SQ is having promotion of around SGD2600 round trip fare for a business class ticket from AMD to SIN to JFK n you will get around 19000 Miles. While a ticket for the same date from SIN to JFK cost around $7000. A Y class ticket cost $3500 from sin to jfk

So what is SQ thinking ? Seem like that home based pax are the worst off.

It have always been the case that usually ex-sin fares by SQ are far more expensive. Just for example my KL colleague just book a flight from KUL to TKO in sep and she paid only rm1.441.40 nett return(S$488), whereas I did a search on the same day and flight from sin and it costs S$840!! Same goes for ex-JKT afres to US which are much lower than ex-sin.

This is an industry-wide practice, not a case of SQ mistreating its home base. In many cases you can expect to pay more for flying less.

There's nothing diabolical about this - some markets are just prepared to pay more.
