  • Tight Transfer Timing at HKG

    Hi,
I've booked myself on from SIN-TPE on CX, so i'll be travelling SIN-HKG-TPE on CX 716 (SIN-HKG) and connecting on to CX 462 (HKG-TPE).
Apparently, the trasfer timing is only 50 min, I wonder if i'll be able to catch the connecting flight in HKG given the tight transfer timing.

Someone who knows more about HKG may advise differently but to me, 50 minutes does sound tight given that you have to clear security when you arrive and then make your way to the new gate for your flight to TPE.

Is it all booked on one ticket ? If it is, then if you miss the flight to TPE it's CX's problem to rebook you on the next available flight and (as it seems to be the last flight of the day) sort you out with overnight accommodation. It'll be worthwhile to mention your tight connection when you check-in at SIN and also to the crew on your flight to HKG.

      Tight but legal, I think.

Based on what I've seen on LHR-HKG-MNL, upon disembarking from your SIN-HKG flight, you'll find CX staff meeting pax with tight connections. One should be assigned to those who will be taking your HKG-TPE flight. They will escort you to the front of the security line so that you'll go through security ahead of pax with longer connections. You probably won't have time to linger airside, though.

Yup... it's all in one ticket... hopefully the ground staff in SIN would put me in the forward cabin so that i can disembark faster to be able to catch the connecting flight at HKG...
will my bags make it??? I'm travelling with a party of 6 ppl....

Your baggage will PROBABLY make it - saying that HKG has failed me before when I had transfer time >1 hour. However, they will send it by the next flight and courier it to your residence in TPE.

There might be a CX rep. standing outside your arrival gate to direct/escort you to security. Note that "Departures" sign lead to onward security, whereas "Transfers" lead to the transfer desks.

CX reps are usually prompt at meeting pax with tight connections; I usually see them outside flights with placards displaying flight info and/or names of pax. Even if there's no CX rep meeting you at the gate, HKG security is pretty good at fast forwarding pax with imminent departures.

Failing all that, since the whole itinerary is on the same ticket, it is CX's obligation to rebook you should you miss your onward connection and there are flights to TPE almost every hour.
