Didn't know they had this service! They must have many repeat customers!
Brought my bottle of Glenfiddich to the cruise because i was informed by a friend of mine who is a regular that i can keep my bottle there for a period of 3 months and the bottle validity can be extended each time i take it out.. was expecting to be charged for the corkage but was told by the manager (the guy in the photo you took at the JW bar) that no corkage charge.. Continuing with the TR...

The signature stage show on the Genting Dream was "Voyage of a Lover's Dream", which played to a packed house. It was staged on at least two nights of the cruise, if not more.

This stage show featured both dance and gymnastic feats with a fantastical storyline...

While some may have found it too psychedelic and over-the-top for their tastes, this was a very memorable show: a world class production with incredible feats of skill and dexterity, and many jaw dropping moments.

Excellent TR on the cruise yflyer. My mother wants to go on one someday, either SoCal to Mexico or Seattle to Alaska. It sounds like a very cool and unique experience. Happy New Year to you as well, hope 2018 has started out well for you. Looking forward to more cruise pics

Thanks, SQfanatic! Happy New Year to you too!

I have heard that the Alaskan cruises are very scenic...I have never been myself. Something on my to-do list. Many years ago, before kids, Mrs yflyer and I had booked ourselves on an Alaskan cruise with Princess. But then the Asian financial crisis hit, and the USD-SGD exchange rate rose so much that it didn't make sense any more, so we had to cancel, and make more modest vacation plans. Since that time, we've gone to many other places, but somehow have not made it to Alaska yet. Some day.

So far, the dining described in this TR covered mainly Genting Club lounge dining facilities, available only to Dream Palace Suites passengers, and specialty restaurants, which were typically charged separately (Although our specific cruise package did include several complimentary speciality meals.)

As part of the regular cruise package, guests had a choice of complimentary buffet or sumptuous sit down dining at various restaurant venues onboard. We also dined at these venues for several meals. The next few posts outline the all-inclusive dining options available to all passengers onboard.

There was a buffet at the Lido restaurant, or sit-down dining at the main dining room, the Dream Dining Room, where the upper level served Chinese cuisine, and the lower level served Western/International cuisine.

Here are pictures of breakfast at the sprawling Lido restaurant.

The outdoor section of the Lido restaurant...

Ample seating inside, with great sea views for many of the tables...

            The international breakfast buffet...

            Bread and pastries...

            Cereal (And a butter dispenser)...

            Salad...

            Coffee and juice...

A decent hot selection, although the bacon looked a little strange...

A good selection of Asian/Oriental breakfast dishes...

A different congee each day, ranging from century egg, to meat or plain congee.

The DIY nasi lemak was popular...

There was a decent selection of Indian breakfast dishes as well...

Quantity wise, no-one would have cause for complaint. The variety of dishes was impressive. As for taste and quality, I would say it was fine, but not 5-star...some dishes were hit-or-miss...on one of the days, the ikan bilis in the nasi lemak were rock hard. But on the whole, this was decent breakfast spread.

For those who preferred it, there was also a daily sit-down set breakfast served in the Dream Dining Room...

This is an example of the Western breakfast...

An example of a breakfast main...

An oriental breakfast set was also served in the upper dining room...

The lunch and dinner menus served in the main Dream Dining Room were quite impressive...

Marinated jelly fish with octopus as an appetiser...

Poached frogs legs in Chinese wine broth...

Stir fried prawns in spicy Thai sauce...

                  Steamed fish...

The lower level of the Dream Dining room offered passengers an international dining selection...

The international menu was a semi-buffet, with buffet starters/desserts and an a la carte main.

Wine and liquor at additional charge (Unless you had signed up for one of several beverage packages.)

                    Pan seared bay snapper...

                    or

BBQ pork ribs with jasmine rice...

                    or

                    Bacon Cheeseburger...

Here are examples of the dinner menu...

                      Lamb shank...

                      Angel hair pasta...

Overall both Asian and Western dining was well done, with tasty dishes and quite an amazing variety on offer.

Passengers could dine free-and-easy at any of these restaurants during meal hours. As you entered the dining room, your cruise card was tapped on the contactless reader, with each passenger entitled to one meal at any of these restaurants i.e. you could dine at any one of the following: the Lido buffet, the Dream Dining upper - Chinese, or Dream Dining lower - International.

And apart from these all-inclusive options, there were other paid options as well, such as Japanese, Chinese and Western speciality restaurants covered earlier.

In addition to those paid options, there was also hotpot...

And a casual, food-court style cafe, called Blue Lagoon...

..which had a mouthwatering selection of local and western favourites on the menu, such as noodles, rice, burgers and sandwiches, all on a chargeable basis...

The fish noodles looked really delicious...

...as did the Crispy fish skin with salted egg...

There was also an ice cream bar...

                        ...and an Irish Pub...

...although I doubt many pubs in Ireland offered their patrons a game of Mahjong...

All too soon, it was the last night of the cruise...

Prior to the final performance of "Voyage of a Lover's Dream", our cruise director, came onstage to introduce the crew of the ship, and this included representatives from all departments from catering, to maintenance, right up to the captain.

I thought this was a nice touch (Not sure if other cruise lines do this), and it gave passengers a way to acknowledge the hard work put in by all members of the crew...

As part of our cruise package, if we dined at four different specialty restaurants during our cruise, we would be entitled to an additional free specialty dinner at our choice of any of the four.

Since we checked all boxes, and previously dined at the Mark Best Bistro, Uma Umi Japanese Teppanyaki as well as their Bento, and Silk Road Chinese, we were entitled to additional dinner, and chose to return to Mark Best Bistro.

Apart from the steak set dinners, we treated ourselves to other a la carte options, including...

Tomato soup with Alaskan king crab and pesto...

                          ...and a crisp Caeser's Salad...

I could not resist ordering the crab fettucini, was superb...

Mrs yflyer had earlier enquired about dining at the Chef's Table in the bistro. This was not offered on this cruise, however the chef at the bistro noted our interest, and very kindly served us complimentary crispy pork belly courses as part of our dinner -- these were tender and very delicious. A very nice gesture on their part!

This went well with the house Mapachi Chardonnay...

The Rangers Valley flank steaks served as part of the set were great too, as they were on our previous visit.

The house red that evening was La Belle Angele Merlot...

We also sampled their broccoli with capers and anchovies, which Mrs yflyer said was some of the nicest anchovies she had ever eaten.

A very enjoyable dinner...if I were to name a favourite specialty restaurant onboard, it would be the Bistro by Mark Best.

Also on the final evening, there was a special poolside seafood barbeque dinner planned for Dream Palace guests, however as the weather was wet and windy in the early part of the evening, this was moved indoors to the Genting Club Lounge. This was quite a feast...

                            ...with platters piled with lobsters...

                            ...soft shelled crabs...

                            ...and other delights...

Later that evening, it seemed that everyone onboard was on the outdoor deck.

We are all waiting for the fireworks display at sea...

On prior days of the cruise, the atmosphere on deck in the evening was fairly sedate...things were surprisingly quiet...where was the party atmosphere on the outdoor decks? Was everyone in the casino? Or worse still, was everyone asleep?

But today, everyone was out...and the atmosphere was electric. Where had everyone been? Why only tonight, on this last night? Talk about a cruise on a slow fuse...but on this final night, things finally got going, and we all felt that hard-to-define frisson, of a group of people collectively having a great time.

As for the fireworks themselves, for anyone who has experienced Singapore National Day fireworks, or any proper fireworks display on land, this might have been a little underwhelming...a burst or two every few seconds, hardly sensory overload, but it was enough to get the crowd going...

...and as the last burst of fireworks faded away, the dancing became even more frenetic...

An evening to remember...here was the atmosphere, the joy, and the giant party on deck, that missing element that finally fell into place on the final night of the cruise...

                              To be continued!

                                Continuing with the TR...

The last day of the cruise was spent sailing towards Singapore...we would arrive back in Singapore around midday, which meant there was still time to use the pool and other facilities in the morning.

We were soon in the Singapore Strait...

                                ...amidst busy shipping traffic...

...and the occasional Republic of Singapore Navy vessel keeping a close eye on proceedings...

For some reason, very few Dream Palace guests used the viewing area above the Bridge...apart from the occasional strolling pax, or folks in the jacuzzi's, we had the viewing area almost to ourselves, on the times we were there.

Very nice views of the city as we approached the Cruise Terminal...

The Lounge restaurant remained open in the late morning even after we docked...

At the appointed time, we reluctantly disembarked...

A final look at the ship, with it's many balcony cabins, and the incredible overwater zipline...
