I count 4 bags in the Executive Suite ( Look for the suitcase handles: 3 under the TV & 1 between the single chairs ).

2 Selfridges bags in the Regency Suite.

Where do the 8 roast ducks fit?

I agree that this is a good hotel if not a bit too expensive (>GBP300).

But during my last stay there were two false fire alarms two days in a row.
Once was around midnight and once at 7AM in the morning which really disrupted my sleep schedule.
One of the alarms took almost 30 minutes to resolve and all the guests had to wait outside in the cold.
No apologies from the management whatsoever which was a bit surprising for a hotel like this.

I know the misunderstandings are my fault due to the bad quality of the pic, but...

There are actually only 2 Tumi products in the picture: 1 cabin, 1 check-in!

There are 2 check-in bags and 3 cabin bags exposed in the pic, with the rest rather cleverly hidden away in several parts of the room.

You missed one (that's not a coffee table below the hanging picture), and those were Harrods not Selfridges bags!

Roast ducks stay with the room service freezer from the last night to the next morning.

met a couple of my favorite SQTalkers here last year... like the general sentiment, love the property. however, as mentioned, the lounge is crowded. seemed like some people brought 8-9 guests with them every morning. other than that, loved the place.
had christmas dinner at the property wih ms. taipeiflyer and it was very enjoyable... as was drinking the house out of Dom P later in the week... thoroughly enjoyed the conversation between one distinguished SQTalker and the waiter, when they tried to encourage us to drink another champagne that was comparably priced, only to be dutifully told to look a little harder for some more Dom... which they ended up finding. a very wonderful and surprisingly memorable night despite the copious amount of champagne that was consumed by 3 gentlemen.

Checked in here yesterday - as diamond got upgraded to an Executive Suite as pictured above.

Lounge still very crowded and it would seem that that this hotel has one of the most relxed guest policies in the lounge i have ever seen. However, They have introduced a key card on the door to the lounge last year as apparently people were just walking in off the street for the freebies.

Just finished another very enjoyable 2 night stay here. As stated elsewhere, due to the relatively small size of the rooms here it is a real bonus to be able to use a Suite Upgrade Certificate. We used one for this stay and for the first time we got a Park View Regency Suite on the 9th floor with views out over Portman Square, the same as StarG's pictures in post 9.

The 9th floor is no longer a smoking floor post renovation so I am hoping we get a room up there each time in future. I have asked them to add a note to this effect on my file.

They have also now opened up a second Regency Club area, which is to the left as you exit the lifts on the 8th floor. The original RC, which is still there, is to the right. This has made a huge difference to those with lounge access as tables were available all the time during breakfast and evening cocktails, especially on the newly opened left hand side.

                      Gas explosion at the Churchill

14 injured but mercifully nobody seems to have been killed. I was there 2 weeks ago but think my stay next month may need reconfirming...

An investigation has started into a suspected gas explosion at a luxury hotel that injured 14 people.

The five-star Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill, in Portman Square, Marylebone, was evacuated following the blast shortly before midnight.

London Ambulance Service said five of the injured were taken to hospital, including two with leg wounds.

The explosion in the hotel's basement caused part of the building to collapse, London Fire Brigade said.

About 500 people were moved to nearby hotels after the explosion at about 23:40 GMT. The hotel has more than 400 guest rooms.

The National Grid is trying to identify the cause of the blast, while London Fire Brigade said it is believed to have been caused by a gas leak, and is carrying out its own investigation.

Jeanette Unsworth, spokeswoman for the National Grid, said: "We were waiting for the emergency services to do their work of getting the injured people out, and we'll be on scene today investigating to establish the exact cause."

                      'Pretty intense'

About 80 firefighters went to the blast, including fire engines with specialist equipment to deal with collapsed buildings.

A hotel spokesman said no guests were harmed but 12 staff were treated for injuries. It said guests were accommodated in other hotels while the damage was being assessed.

Raymond Reyes, a guest at the hotel, described the scene as "chaos" after the blast happened.

"The floor shook and there was a loud explosion simultaneously. The power went out, it was pitch dark," he said.

Nawaf Albarrak was staying at the Radisson hotel across the street at the time of the blast, but had meant to be staying at the Hyatt that night.

"I felt it, I heard the sound. I thought it might be an accident, a car crashing," he said.

BBC journalist Richard Main, of BBC London 94.9, said it was understood the explosion had happened in the hotel's kitchens.

He said some of the hotel staff were treated for relatively minor injuries including a suspected broken leg.

Dennis Luwer, who lives opposite the hotel, said a hole had been blown in the side of the building.

He said: "It's been pretty intense. We just came home and saw lots of people standing outside.

"The street has been blocked off. There is a big hole in the outer wall of the Hyatt. It's about two metres high and a metre wide.

"There's a metal garage door bulged out. We can see some windows at street level also blown out."

A spokesman for the hotel said: "Hyatt's top priority is the safety and well-being of our guests and associates, and we are currently working to provide guests with accommodations while we evaluate whether the hotel suffered any significant damage."

It reopens tomorrow....and it looks like there has been a bit of a price hike, certainly for the couple of dates I checked.

Had my first stay back in the Churchill last week. Only floors 7, 8 & 9 are open at the moment as they are giving most of the other floors a refurb. The gym is still closed as it is near where the explosion happened and only the right hand (original) side of the club lounge is currently being used.

Didn't realize explosion was so serious. Thought only kitchen involved

Or did they take it as an opportunity to refurbish the rooms as well?

Yes they are giving it a refurb now. I'll be glad when it's all fully reopened at the end of next month as although I have got a room for a stay next month for other London trips, including a short notice one tonight, it's full.
