9V-SKH have departed from JFK as SQ25 on 16/8 n reach FRA n being turn back to JFK as SQ26 (replacing SKF).
If the last few months were taken as a snapshot of the A380 reliability, you’d have to wonder if keeping them long term is very feasible. These problems must be causing massive headaches in rebooking so many passengers.

Aside from weather related situations where SQ26 has turned back at FRA, I cant recall another time when the two planes swapped directions like this. SKF must need work done on it that will take all day. I won’t assume it needs further work back in SIN as the switch to SQ25 could be a tactic to recover the timetable and minimise further disruption.

With 2 A380s out in maintenance and refitting at any one time, SQ have only 17 A380s to be used and with weather disruptions and technical issues, often when a 3rd A380 is AOGed, then the whole A380s flights goes out of syn and this resulted in the flyable A380s having to work much more than the average hours a day and hence could be a reason why more A380s are having tech issues. And with the Airbus discovery of the outer wing spars cracks, 4 of SQ's A380 have to be checked and this could have resulted in even fewer A380s available for flights.

Seems most likely.

Doubt it's technical, cos it left after a quick 1 hour stop.

I think it has more to do with what time they reported for duty in this case. Probably reported at the new estimated departure time only to be further delayed due to unresolved issues.

Further returned to 03:00. 9V-SKU seem to be having some issue.

Edit: further delayed to 07:45 am. Waiting for incoming aircraft.

And more importantly, there are 3 versions, so not easy to switch the aircraft. Unlike the 777-300ER or A350 which have standard seating arrangement.

Seem like after SKF is back, SKJ went into the hanger. So still only 5 version 1 A380 operating. SKF seem to be undergoig further check after she landed at Changi earlier. SKF was not deployed on SQ306.

SIA should cut down one or 2 destinations using the A380s as currently there seems to be 2 A380s down for maintenance and refitting at any one time leaving only 17 A380s available, and where other aircrafts are AOGed somewhere whcih seems quite frequent lately, the other flights by A380s have been delayed by 7 hours to even 12 hours as the need to await for other A380s to arrive in order to make up for the delayed flights.
