You're correct but it's about to switch over. The route requires 3 planes to cover it and as the all-J upper deck fleet are being refurbished first, it will soon be too difficult to source 3 of them.

      • SKJ on SQ336 n SKM on SQ802 today
SKH on SQ830. Lot of switching.

SKI have been out for around 10 days. Think there might an issue for the rotation after 1st June if SKI is still not back.

        • It seem like SQ222/231 will get the refitted A380 from 10th June onwards.

Makes sense. Our peak overseas travel season from Australia is about to begin and getting extra landing slots at SYD isn't easy so those seats will get filled I'd expect.

And finally, we can now expect a refitted A380 to come into service!

Only until 1st August, then it goes onto Delhi for a month before switching to Mumbai from 1st September onwards.

It looks like they are scheduling for only one aircraft so far. I guess when they have a clearer idea of the rollout date for the second one they will then update the schedules and Sydney SQ231/222 might end up keeping the new config after 1st August?

It would make sense to offer a common Suites product on that route.

                  • There is an A380 in the new configuration scheduled for an air-test on 04JUN19 as SQ8898.

                    STD: 1100
                    STA: 1300

Finally, the first completed refit getting ready for 10 June!

                      • However for all the 13 older A380s to be refitted and reconfigured would take at least another 3 years and only by 2022 will all be completed and thats still quite sometime.

                        • SQ406 is operated by SKP today. Not sure how they are going to fill in all the Y pax (think quite a lot will be moved to Business) but don’t think it is enough also.

It seem like the flights to n from Delhi/Mumbai are almost full in Y n PE (few seats left on certain days) for the next few weeks.

                            • Seems SIA started the refit with a relatively younger A380 - 9V-SKS which is about 7.5 years old, as there are 5 of its A380s are over 10 years old with one over 11 years old.

It's all about yield. Those all upper-J cabins take up way too much space and the new layout has virtually the same number of J seats plus getting the Suites onto the same deck. As we head into a peak tourist travel season, that's a whole lot more Y seats downstairs for SQ to sell on a plane they were already going to fly.

The original layout with the upper-Y cabin has always had better efficiency in floor space with the exception of being quite short on J seats on routes where demand is high. The new layout is the best of both worlds at the expense of Suites.
