Apparently it was President Trump who ordered the grounding through an executive order which he signed in yesterday. And FAA therefore also need to issue its grounding.

According to FR24, the Hiroshima flights are still operating non stop, but with 738NGs.

Just saw I believe all 6 of MI's 737maxes at the new remote bays at the far end of the airport near the end of R02L. Believe should be visible from PIE merging into ECP.
Some of them had their engine inlets covered. Seems like they are quarantined.

          taken from fb spotter group.

covering of the engine inlets should be under the parking procedures of the AMM. I don't think quarantine is the term to use. should use grounded.

Yup. Know the proper term is grounded. Just meant it in a tongue in cheek way. Other than VVIP jets, this is the first time I am seeing engine inlet covers on a 9V aircraft in Changi.

Have seen engine covers before at Changi on wide body aircrafts, and generally this is necessary for aicrafts which will be parked for a few days. The engine covers for the fromt of the engine is to prevent the engne fan blades from turning due to the wind, as sometimes one can seethe engines fan blades turning due to fairly strong wind when the aircraft is at the gate/stand.

Apparently Southwest is storing their 737 MAXs in VCV:

                https://onemileatatime.com/southwest-737-max-storage/

VCV might be a bit too far for MI, but if the grounding is expected to be long enough to warrant special storage, wonder if there's a need to move them out of the way...

Read in an article that one of the reasons Southwest is parking their aircrafts at VCV is to give greater efficiency for their maint staff when bringing their aircraft back to serviceable conditions.

With just 6 affected aircrafts and the new additional remote bays in Changi, MI shouldn't be having an issue

Yup it is not a problem to park the 6 Silkair maxes at Changi

                    • Landed back at SIN on Runway 02L today. As we landed, out of the right hand side windows, a row of parked Silkair 737Max8's could be seen..

                        A little off-topic: https://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/sa...changi-airport

Seems like 9V-MGF is the aircraft in question, having operated MI473|05APR (HYD-SIN). Probably the most inopportune time to have to pull aircraft out of service.

                        • With the daily addition of bad news coming in about B737, i wonder if SQ might cancel them and trade in for additional B787s or B777x.

It might be an opportunity to standardise their narrow-body fleet. Perhaps even consider A321LRs for long-thin routes to new destinations.
This will open up to the whole of Australia and North Asia

                          • Airbus is booked solid. Scoot got only TNA and TNB, then the rest of their NEOs are coming later.

I guess they could keep the Max in the short to medium term, then dump them for NSAs once the NMA/NSA programs are stabilized.

Indeed. Apparently the A320 family's production waitlist is a good 7 years!

                              • They will have a few slots pre-booked for TR in the coming years but TR is having its own growth, so it wont be a short-term option as mentioned.

Interesting to see how this plays out, everyday there seems to new information on how badly Boeing have handled the whole thing. It makes you worried for the B777X especially with the folding wings.
