There are many secondary cities in SE Asia where people are not willing to pay the premium of SilkAir. Air Asia are able to open up such destinations and rapidly expand, even though she is mostly and O&D airlines (AirasiaX does not the the network compare to SQ).

The expansion of Scoot in short haul make perfect sense. It will open up or allow SIA group to compete effectively in cities such as Pontianak, Miri, Bintulu, Nha Trang, Urumqi, Changchun, Trengganu to name a few -- which do not have premium demand to warrant a SilkAir.
