My uncle in in Spain and he flow out on Monarch. This return flight is more than 2 weeks away so the CAA won't return him home.

Nice initiative on the part of the UK govt to fly citizens back, although this is a commercial airline bankruptcy. Do pax need to pay anything? If not, it will be expensive for the taxpayer, but great for the individuals involved.

What kind of precedent does it set? Does it mean that if an airline goes bust, then UK citizens can expect to be flown back home by the govt? This is different from an emergency evacuation from a war zone or natural disaster.

Very generous of the UK Govt/taxpayer. Don't think it'll happen for Singaporeans should any of our local airlines fail. We will have to depend on insurance, which I feel is the right solution. The govt can assist with information and facilitation but I don't think they should foot the bill.
